1) What are you riding?
2) Are you insane?

Backing it in is usually achieved via going down one too many gears, then using the clutch to limit the engine revs and make the rear wheel spin slower than it should be at that speed, thus breaking traction. On the road it could lead to allsorts of injuries, but hey, go for it!

Sliding on the way out? Be stupid with the throttle.

Slide as in slide mid corner or backing it in? If you wanna slide mid corner, go round it as fast as you can and twat the throttle open mid way round. Tell us the results.

ummm...if you really want to learn, why not go to a race school?

or you could go to a deserted car park when its wet and ride round in circles playing with the throttle.

General consensus is that it's a bad thing to try on the road - for a start I believe you've got to be quite commited to a fast corner before you get a decent slide.

I've messed about on an old dr600 I used to have, but never did anything too impressive.

It's hard to quanitfy how 'good' a rider you are, but a lot of people have said that you should at least be able to wheely confidentally before trying this properly.
I never crashed during my attempts but never really got it right.

Apparantly you should be knocking it down a gear then using the rear brake to control it and pulling the power on to stop it slowing too much.

If you have to ask, then you shouldnt be trying it, imo..

Get yourself on a crosser, you'll soon learn to control a rear wheel slide properly. And it doesnt hurt as much when you fall off.. Cool
