I bought a Honda CR250 with problems and one big problem is that it seem the coolant is mixing with the oil resulting in grey goo coming out of the carb overflow.

What do i need to do? Change head gasket? Water pump gasket?

Cheers.

Hi

Struggle to think how water can get from the engine back to the carb and then out of the overflow.

Most common problem on a 2 stroke with water in the gearbox (and so possibly coming out of the crankcase breather) is a damaged water pump seal.

All the best

Keith

If that is the case then is it just a case of changing that gasket and im good to go or what else needs to be done to ensure the bike's running properly?

Hi

Yes, change the seal (presume the water pump is under the clutch cover). Also need to drain the gearbox oil and fill with fresh stuff (probably worth doing this a few times over a short period of time to flush out the remaining water).

All the best

Keith

Nicky, i havent fixed it yet but i had a go on my friends RM250. What a rush!!! I was huffing and puffing after 10 minutes of riding, its true, you have to be fit to ride a moto x bike properly.

I really need to get stuck in with getting my CR fixed.

When you change the oil, flush it around several times until it's coming out looking like oil, rather than looking milky. Use cheap car oil for this, when I drowned my XR it needed flushing through 7 times so you don't really want to be using expensive oil.

mates CR250 had a holed waterpump housing. Only a pin hole from corrosion, but need a whole new RH casing.
