I don't know what you're saying for a start Confused.

But - the law does not require you to have mirrors. However if you have them, common sense suggest it's going to look better to have them and know what's behind you than be splatted by a faster and bigger vehicle.

I took the mirrors of mine because they look stupid and I get pulled over constantly, nothing has been said to me yet.

You don't really notice mirrors missing on bikes I guess lol, not sure about the law.

If it is legal to have no mirrors can someone give me a link to where it says this exactly, just so if the police ever do mention it I can hit them with some knowledge Smile

The absolute minimum you need for a bike to be road legal is a numberplate and a horn; this will be a daytime MOT.

For a full MOT you will also need a headlight, a tail + brake light and a red reflector at the rear of the bike. Indicators and mirrors are optional items in both cases.

i got pulled once on my Z250, his gripe wasnt that i didnt have mirrors, it was that i hadnt looked behind me for the past couple of miles!, he told me to either fit mirrors or look behind me more often!, i reckon he just wanted a look at my beaten up old z (tyres, tax, etc) Rolling Eyes

Thanks alot Korn, thats good to know, however I didn't know you needed a red reflector on the back, my L plate covers that.

I was wondering why I never got pulled for them and just thought they weren't noticible, I do however know you don't need indicators, a guy who has an XR650 doesn't have them, told me he has to use hand signals, lol.

I'd prefer to have a bike that looks a bit funny and live than not have mirrors TBH.

I have ridden without mirrors and it is very scary. You need to work really hard looking over each shoulder all of the time.

Put it this way, if you remove your mirrors and don't have to modify your riding style then you aren't looking behind enough.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

going from my vfr (mirrors) to my DRZ (no mirrors), I didnt have to modify my riding style at all because the mirrors on the vfr and come to think of it, most bikes I've owned were'nt worth a wank anyway!

Yea, most sports bike all you can see is your arms.

When I first took them off, I was used to them and I did find it scary for a day but I just look behind regulary and I'm fine.

I dont have mirrors on my xr400 and it passed its full mot. I ithink that it is safer not having mirrors because you have to look all around you instead of just a quick look in the mirror. It also doesnt have indicators, a rear reflector or a ignition barrel and ive never been done by the cops.

NO! There's no such thing as a "daytime MoT"!

If you put your 'bike in for an MoT without lights, you'll get the same MoT certificate as you would with lights (assuming it passes in all other respects). You should, however, get an entry on the advisory notes (the orange bit) saying that there were no lights fitted - this doesn't form part of the MoT certificate.

However, it goes without saying that a 'bike without lights shouldn't be used after dusk, or when visibility is poor.

Referring to a "daytime MoT" is confusing and slightly misleading - you either have an MoT certificate or you don't; there are no half-measures.

And a headlight is compulsory on anything first used after about 1931.

All the best
