Posted: 23:19 - 09 Sep 2007 Post subject: how can i tax my bike without cover note?? |
|
|
ive just bought the bike, insured it through bennetts but they say its gonna be friday by the time i get the cover note.is there a way i can tax it before then?
i tryed online but it says the tax disk will only be sent to the adress on the log book, which is still in the previous owners name.
post office wont do it even though i am actually insured, they cant phone my insurance company and check .
???????
any ideas?
just wondering:
ive scanned my cover note in for my previous bike.if i could change the details on it to my new policy number and bike reg would i get into trouble for it?
technically it would be legit insurance.? ____________________ DRZ-400sm |

Simple answer is that you can't.
Many times I've tried to tax a legit insured / MOT'd etc vehicle and have had to wait for docs to come through.
The police can instantly find out if your vehicle is insured but the post office can't. Daft really, because technically you can tax a vehicle which has been insured at some point with the cert, even if you have cancelled that policy. ____________________ Current: ZZR1400

The only other way I've found is to use a business policy which covers all vehicles IF you know anyone that can lend one to you.
Problem is that only some Post Offices will accept it, (I don't think they are supposed to). Most say that there has to be a name on the cert that matches the V5, but I have managed to tax a couple of vehicles this way before. ____________________ Current: ZZR1400

Oh well, you're buggered then.
It's well annoying when this type of thing stops you from using a new vehicle, but Sod's Law states that if you go out on it you will get pulled, and no amount of saying 'well it would of been taxed if I was able to' will get the off your back.

Cant see the problem myself. NO you cant get tax because of one reason or the other, but you have a fully legal car!!!!
Where is the difficulty in choosing the legal car over an illegal bike? ____________________ 04 zx10r with mods - 187.4bhp at the wheel! :o |

If the OP is anything like me, it's not a case of needing transport it's wanting to ride their new toy
I was in the exact same situation when I got my 1st bike... I just rang the insurance company and spun them a line about needing to pick the bike up from the person I bought it from and they were getting upset and threatening to cancel the sale to me. When it looked like they may loose a sale too they got it sent special delivery so the certificate arrived the next day

Depends what mood the copper is in if your get pulled, its upto £1000 fine for no tax! - Is it really worth it?
Also isn't your insurance invalid if your bike isnt taxed on the road! ____________________ 04 zx10r with mods - 187.4bhp at the wheel! :o

If you're really worried about it get them to fax or e-mail the cover note to you. ____________________ My claim to fame: Austin Vince nicked my pen... |
