Yeah the E model as hot cams, but they can be bought and fitted with ease.
But offeer very little in performance gains.
Changing the carb is the way forward plus doing a 3x3 mod on the airbox and rejetting to suit. ____________________ Http://www.manchesterbikers.net |

I cant afford to insure 2 bikes
I was looking at other models and wondering what people think of a restricted xt660?? (they bit more expensive in insurance &bike).
I might only cover the 'odd' motorway journey every 3 months and as for long journeys; the only ones would be up ta scotland with a few of my mates on 125's and every so often around the dales.
The only reason why i'd consider a local dealer is for servicing!!
going to be checking out a few places this weekend, i reckon some would service a CCM and stock parts! ____________________ Dave

The S and E models are totally different and aimed at different markets.
Pre 2003 the S and E had different suspension, after they had the same. Currently the difference stands at:
10+ kilos in weight
About 8 horsepower
Stubby rear subframe on the E (weak, no luggage, no pillions)
No speedo on the E
Carb
Cams
Gasket
No passenger pegs on the E (S uses one as exhaust bracket, so you can't just remove them)
No fan on the E
plastic tank on the E, metal on the S (both tank and locking cap)
Vacuum fuel tap on the S, manual on the s
no rim locks on S
Different OEM gearing, 15/44 S, 14/47 E
E has bigger header pipe
General thumper forum concensus on the matter is that it is easier to roadify the E than it is to muddy the S. The S will always be heavier, though you can definitely pull the power of an E out of an S motor, it just gets expensive quickly. Main issue with the s is that being a dual sport it isn't that marvellous at either, it can't really off road without modification (gearing, tyres) and such change make it a dog on the road.
Only other option is an SM edition, however that has the tyres, brakes and suspension to deal with power, but no power to deal with. Plus it comes with the disadvantage of being even heavier than the S. I've ridden all three bikes, and own a DR350. The 350 would sit next to the SM up to about 70 mph in a drag race, and will wheely easier than the SM. The S is next better, leaving the DR350 a bit behind, and the E flat trounces the 3 other bikes.
My advice?
You want something for the road, find a supermoto converted E model. They come up pretty frequently on E-bay, or do as G did and get a CCM. ____________________ Bikes: too many, too much for one man to maintain anyway. |
