Still unsure what bike im going to buy.

I loved my dt125r so im looking for more bikes that kind of style.

can you tell me the name of some more on/off road style bikes please.

Nothing that would be too expensive (1.5k at most, but preferably closer to the 1k mark) but would have to be something fast enough to get to and hold 70-80mph,so im thinking 350cc minimum.

Honda xr400
Yamaha xt600 (love these but there too expensive)
e.t.c....
Theres probably more threads like this but i've searched and cant find any.

Thanks...
dave

my xr 250 will do 80mph but i would recommend doing it for long. its quite alot of strain on the engine i think.... it gets pretty vibey. mate of mine has a tt350 (same engine as the yamaha xt 350) and his will go a bit faster than mine and a bit comfier I think. not sure whether it might be thinking about restricting something like a drz400?

Thanks m8.

Just googled tt350 and i like the look of them.

The drz400 are nice bikes but there a lot more than my measly 1-1.5k budget.

Honda xr400 (basic but probably cheap to run/maintain)
Yamaha xt600 (really nice really like these)
TT350 (similar to the above xt600 but maybe also too expensive)
DRZ400 (maybe too expensive)

any more...

Can get DRZs for that kinda money.

KLR600, DR600 are older and kickstart, but similar.

CCM404 is definitely worth a look, but probably a bit out of your budget.

Not sure on top speeds but, CRM250 and KMX220 are worth a look (2 strokes).

::XR400 (basic but probably cheap to run/maintain)
::XT600 (really nice really like these)
::TT350 (similar to the above xt600 but maybe also too expensive)
::DRZ400 (maybe too expensive)
::klr600 (nice bike and cheap, also drum rear brake Sad )
::DR600(another nice bike, but drum brake none on ebay for price)
::CCM404(nice but cant find much about them)
::KLE500 (very nice i want one)

CRM250 and KMX220 would be good for just off road but im Planning on doing long journeys so 4t engine would be preffered.

Cheers and welcome any more Wink

Getting a good size list now of bikes to look for Thumbs Up Thumbs Up ..

Why not the 2 strokes for distnace?
Not sure about the TT350, but compared to the DR350, the CRM has an extra 10hp and 10kg less on the specs sheet.
They're not that highly strung so should be fine for general use if maintained well.

One of my DR600s had a disc read brake, though this may have been added after. Why don't you want a drum brake on the rear?

For my review of a CCM 404, see here:

The CCM is fun! Smile

I rode a KTM 950 SM at the weekend, and I must say, it was an absolute hoot.

I'm very tempted by a smoto for my next bike.

Keep thinking of my dt125 having to rev the hell out of it all the time.
Id prefer the low down grunt than the tinny noise in my head Laughing

My old chinese bike put me right off drum brakes, but would consider it i spose.

Sounds expensive Laughing

Sorry if i put this in the wrong place,i thought it would be more suited to general chat because people who only use road bikes may still know of some names of enduro bikes...

thanks for the replys

The 125 road biased bikes tend to be a bit peakier, especially those based on sports bike engines (as I believe the DT) is.

I haven't ridden a CRM250 or KMX, but something a bit more serious (luke's 87 RMX250) has a much flatter power delivery than even some four stroke trail bikes.
I don't see that any of them should pose a problem for distance on that aspect.

Drum brake on the DR600 was fine for sliding the rear on the road, so should handle anything you could want from it.

______

Thanks m8 Thumbs Up

The only one i fancy out of that list is the dr350,the rest are all a bit small.
Thinking more along the lines of a big thumper 600 ish, i would need it for long motorway journeys aswell.

DRZ's arnt that good. Too heavy for off roading for a start.. have a look at DR350's Smile

DRZ SM's are even worse. They are like 35bhp or something!

for ultimate off road fun it has to be a 2t Very Happy

DR350 weight is listed as 130kg (same for SE version, it seems). DR-Z400E weight seems to be listed at 119kg.
DR-Z400S (street biased version, same as the SM with rear wheel hp of 33) weight is listed at 134kg.

The 350 has less power (claimed 33hp vs real 33hp) and a little bit less weight than the S DR-Zs and a fair bit less power and more weight than the E version.

The DR600 I had was listed at 134kg too and was fine for general off roading, including some smallish jumps, etc.
