Is there anything I should be worried about with this model ?
ie: are the basic parts like pistons etc the same as a UK model XR 250?

Will a Honda dealer work on it - or are they picky ?

It looks the same as the UK model - but has electric start.

Basic parts are the same; mostly. However it's got small little differences with annoying stuff, like the clutch cover gasket is slighty a different shape at one of the corners. The fuel tank fixings are unique, the frame is different in term of attaching a skid plate, the electric start needs to be backed up by a piece of tow rope for when the battery goes, its got no decompression lever, the headlight needs an extra switch wiring to turn it off rather than just between high and low, air filters are different to normal XR's but it'll take 87 XR filters.

Interesting little bike, was put together from the random spare parts around the Honda factory and then sold for export as a joke.

Honda dealers would work on it, but I've given different dealers the chassis number and they've told me that it's different models. They're not sure of what parts are needed for it which isn't very helpful.

It's more for when the bike get drowned, cos you have to take the spark plug out to get the water out. Wink

Fark. Thats useful information. Im planning to rip into the clutch soonish to stop the god-awful dragging.

What did you end up doing/using regarding the gasket?

You will likely find its geared differently too. The top gears are much taller than the XR250R - which is nice if you are on road.

Its worthwhile googling your frame number (well, the first lot of numbers/letters anyway). Thats the only way I found out mine is an XR250V ....

I'd guess a honda dealer would work on it - but they may not know much about it. Keep an eye on what they do Wink

I got the UK model in the end (XR250RT).
BUT am still trying to do everything as cheap as poss - and so will not be buying the honda gaskets.
Simply buy some liquid gasket and a sheet of gasket paper.

Mark the surface of the case with some oil or a pen marker - press the paper onto the casing so it leaves an imprint of the surface... then cut to shape and make sure you replicate the holes /dowl holes etc.

Clean both surfaces and lightly smear with the liquid gasket and then mount the cut out paper gasket.

Jobs a good 'un - aaah! the memories of doing this with my Fizzys.
