Me and Korn are looking at a Salisbury Plain trip, vague plan is to head down there either Friday or Saturday evening, riding across the plain to the woods we know for camping and having a bonfire then spending the next day riding around on the Plain.

Anyone else up for it? Smile

I'm keen. But the XR isnt running so well...
And the 950Adv might be a handful with the road-biased tyres its got Laughing

Whereabouts roughly do you go? I went for a spin down that way a few weekends ago on the ktm (based on info from one of your earlier trip reports). Not sure I ended up in the right place though... most tracks ended in a "Do not pass this point. Unexploded Ordinance" ... Shocked

Will park somewhere, probably the Solstice services on the A303 near Amesbury. Ride across to the camping place up near Market Lavington which'll hopefully have regrown enough firewood. Next day, back to the van to dump the tents, then spend the day around the Plain with no particular plans other than maybe avoiding the army. Will go to the tank driving course at some point I expect. Smile

There's also this to try and avoid. Razz

Ok, much the same area I was in then. I rode in a somewhat erratic path between Market Lavington and Tidworth.

Any room in a van for an XR250?

I think we have the same model, by the way. Is yours a japanese, leccy start, XR250V?

Unless Korn fixes his van (unlikely), we're talking of going there in my pickup and it won't take three bikes.

XR250 Jap import leccy start, Thumbs Up, don't really know what model it is, it takes a variety of parts ranging from '87 models to '02 models and has some unique to itself like the clutch cover and the petrol tank fittings. But it was working 30-45mins after it was drowned in that picture; bomb proof. Smile

Ok. Might be a bit of a schlep there and back on the 250... What do you think about taking the 950 (ktm Adv) - bad idea? Might be a bit exciting with that weight & non-knobby tyres if its muddy Laughing

Ya, parts are a bit of fun to find apparently. Fortunately, I havent needed any thus far - though the speedo/computer thing rarely works. You can probably work out what model it is by googling the frame number.

The thing ran like a clock when I bought it - but sitting in storage for 6 months wasnt so great for it.
Clutch is sticking like a bitch atm - going to have to get into that to have a looky - its driving me nuts. Valves also need checking - which is why Im a bit reluctant to take it for a 200mile highway slog...

By the way, do you still have the flasher unit for the indicator lights? Still want it? (I see you've taken the indicators off...). Im after one... Wink

Can't see me being able to ride, but there should be a big van sitting here that could be used if anyone wants to.

Do you know what the flags mean?? Wink

Red = live firing taking place
Amber = they are using slightly less harmful things (laseing etc, still ruin an eye if it hit you)
Green - Nothing going on.

Sounds like fun though Thumbs Up

When you see a "Do not leave road, unexploded munitions" on the side of a road you just joined, after leaving a field; it means you should probably not go back that way Smile.

Unfortunately won't be able to make this. I'm off to Cambodia on the 13th and I don't think mrs j will be too happy if I go off to play for the weekend before I go. She's not coming to Cambodia by the way Smile . Would love to come to Salisbury plain next time you go though. Thumbs Up

I wouldn't say wimped out, more like just being crappy and not organising enough for it to happen.

However I'm making plans to go and live by the Plain. Smile
