ive got a 76 lambretta no indicators.....never had them...dont need them...mot still pass...

as said...if the bike had them fitted originally then i think they need them for mot....

seems a bit stupid really...compared to my cbr the lambretta is unstable, poor suspension, poor handling...etc....they should be forced to have them really...

I had an XLR250 with no indicators. It was a bit unnerving when going round roundabouts.

All you need is a brake light and horn AFAIK, you don't need any other lights or mirrors.

I wouldn't dream of riding without them tbh.

Hi

Lighting rules are a minefield.

Basically if it had indicators and is post 1st August 1986 then it must have indicators (the lighting regulations say 1st April 1986).

Bikes from prior to that do not need them, and can have them removed.

There are exemptions for certain classes of bike. Such as off road bikes (think normally defined by a minimum ground clearance) and strangely mopeds.

Lighting rules are here:-

https://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si1989/Uksi_19891796_en_6.htm#nschiobligatorylampreflectorrearmarkingdevice

All the best

basically...

If you have an indicator switch then you need them and they need to be working correctly. No switch then no need for indys.

simple as that!

Kickstart is correct, bikes first used after the 1st of August 1986 must have indicators fitted unless the bike is designed specifically for offroad use or if used only during daylight hours. For daylight only MOT the front and rear lights must either be removed or painted or masked over. Indicator requirements are set out in the Construction And Use Regulations.

That is another minefield. The regs specify various lighting requirements with exemptions if there is no rear marker lamp. But then specifies that the rear marker lamp must be fitted with no exemptions while also saying that nothing in the regulations can be read as saying lights must be fitted.

Personally suspect that there are further very old regulations specifying lighting requirements which are technically still in force. Hence the comment in the MOT manual that bikes from before ~1930 do not need headlights (which can be read as those after that date do need headlights).

All the best

Various of my bikes have and don't have indicators.

Have ridden without quite a lot and you get used to using hand signals quickly enough.
