While surfing egay the other day i came across an 03 RS 125 rolling chassis. Brilliant I thought, so added it to my watch list. As per usual, I had to go to work and thus forgot to put a bid on. A quick email saying i would give him £40 more for it (£150) and a deal was struck. A few phone calls later and we arranged for it to be delivered on the 4th (yesterday). Top notch guy, I gave him £50 for postage and chatted about him leaving to new zeland and his zxr6. Brilliant. He delivered it in about 7 pieces, so after about 40 minutes of struggling with a frame, swingarm and wheels i managed to put it together. Managed to drop it on my foot once and decorate myself in dirt and grease. Worked on it until it got dark. I am planning to make it a race bike with a 250 lump, sponsered by my supplement company; DamtecSupplements. So over the coming months i am going to be posting my progress, queries and thoughts here. I have taken the rear wheel/tyre off ready for sanding and powder coating. I am debating about getting the frame done too. We will see. Thumbs Up

Looks a cool project. Thumbs Up
What 250 lump are you planing to use? I think you might have a little trouble putting a RS250 lump in there because it's a V twin. I wonder if it's possible to put in the RD350 lump like they do with the Mito's? Could go for a motorcross engine, maybe a CR500 to give you the willies? Twisted Evil

Keep us updated Thumbs Up

Interesting.

I wouldn't worry about powdercoating etc yet. Do a mock build 1st.

How about a big single 4T? It's what I'd do, supermono.

Come with the V5?

do you think a Cr500 engine would fit?

Regarding what engine, im really not too sure at the moment. would like it as quick as possible. And nope, no V5. I can apply for it though. Has no number plates either, i just have the VIN number. Im 99.9% sure it hasnt been nicked.

Thanks for the replies Karma

Fibreglassing is a smelly business. Especially when you do it in the frontroom Twisted Evil Mum was really pleased...

The front cowl that came with the bike had a headlight "gap" that looked like it had been cut out by a madman with a pocket knife. With no intention of adding a headlight anyway i thought i could cover it up and try to make it look half decent.

What a result!

If you've got deep pockets and time it'd be cool to put a Rotax 257 engine in it. It's a single cylinder 250cc engine that produces ~50hp and weighs the same as the 125cc engine! Would truly be a beast. Someone in Finland has put one in an Rs125, although they're usually used in go-karts. Check the full details of the Rotax 257 engine in Aprilia Rs125 at

https://www.comp.fi/spondon.htm

Also check the Tzr125 with a Cr500 engine!

That would be brilliant. Thumbs Up However, Ive been thinking and i think im just gonna go for a 125 engine at the moment. Just as i dont have alot of money atm and to be honest i am a totally amateur at buildng bikes. I have only really played with 07 RS. So i think i am going to play it safe and go for a normal rotax 122/123 engine and learn as much as i can from it. Then with at least one bike under my belt, i will move onto the relms of 4T. Otherwise it could all end up going tits up.

So, does anyone know of anyone with a cheap RS motor i can grab off them.

Thanks all

That's cool man, I know how you feel. I'm currently undertaking my first bike rebuild project. It's a 1995 Suzuki rg125f; a bit tatty with a broken top-end and powervalves. However I'm not complaining since I got it for £70 Very Happy. I've posted a thread about it make sure you check it out.

Cheers Thumbs Up ,

I think its really easy to work with. Just make sure you are wearing gloves, a mask would be good too. It seriously smells. My next door neighbour just went round every window in her hour and shut them all as i started fibrglassing. Twisted Evil

Its pretty simple stuff, Just mix the resin and the hardener, make sure you have the right sized pieces of fibreglass matting and away you go. Paint a layer of the resin into the part you wish to fibreglass then lay the 1 piece of matting on top. Then using more resin "stipple" over the top of the matting until the fibres start to loosen and the mat is throughly covered. Then add another layer of matting just overlapping and repeat. Its the first time i have ever used fibreglass (as you can prob tell from the shoddy work) But, i will be using it again.

https://img137.imageshack.us/img137/1896/dsc01054or5.jpg

After a light sanding. Next time i wont be using cardboard as a base for the shape. It got stuck in the resin. Had to sand alot of it out Rolling Eyes

https://img129.imageshack.us/img129/4738/dsc01055lk2.jpg

After a layer of fibreglas on the front. Next step is sanding down and priming. Idea

Just uploaded some pics.

Started to sand down the from cowl now but it is noway near finished. I am going to cut a letterbox style air vent once i have got it looking good enough. Ive sanded down and primed the rear hugger, ready for painting.

https://img215.imageshack.us/img215/928/dsc01077bb1.jpg

Primed and ready to go.

https://img219.imageshack.us/img219/6451/dsc01081pv7.jpg

I wish i had an electric sander. My arms are aching; I've only done one corner.
