Cheers
I think it came out rather well considering...
I have never upholstered a seat before in my life
I dont posess fancy tools to get the job done properly
It was half past midnight and mr sandman was bearing down heavily on me
The main reason I did it in the first place was to make it waterproof as opposed to the gaffa tape. I liked the look of the tape but practicality got in the way
Dont worry Fahd, I didnt make it look too good
EDIT: Couple more pics, PB is still down for some reason so they will have to be clickable files. ____________________ Check out our tackle shop on Facebook:

That may be coming off yet as one side of it has a nasty crack around the bolt hole and the makeshift frame that was bodged together to hold it in place is almost rusted through too ____________________ Check out our tackle shop on Facebook:

Is it a fibre glass nose fairing or a plastic one? Either way it is easily fixed and a bracket can be fabricated using the old one as a pattern for not much effort.

It's a fibreglass fairing and could be repaired with some P40 quite easily or some of the matting that they sell but I must admit I liked the look of it without the fairing when I took it off to paint it.
But... seeing as I plan to use this daily I have strongly considered keeping it on and repairing it due to the small amount of wind protection it will provide. ____________________ Check out our tackle shop on Facebook:

Well it's been a while since I have posted anything. The bike looks the same apart from it has no front wheel at the minute. New tyre sourced and fitted on the rim, just painting it now.
Finally got a result on the calipers. After speaking to someone with a good knowledge on bodging bikes, Kawasaki's inparticular, he said that I can rework the calipers on a 550 and use the outer housing of the original 750 ones. I double checked this with the help of the workshop manual (many thanks for that Grav, kudos to you mate ) and it appears that it's going to fit. Had a look on ebay and found these which I won for a respectable 32.00 inc. postage
https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=110225048761&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=001
Hopefully they will turn up this week and should be serviceable. The chap selling them says they can go straight on, so fingers crossed I can marry the outer 750 housing to them.
Once the front brakes are on, just want to sort out the back tyre and change the rear brake hose then Fugley goes to MOT ____________________ Check out our tackle shop on Facebook:

550 calipers and 750 calipers are completely different from each other and no amount of machining is ever going to make them fit properly. I have gone with Grav's mate Bikerdrew and paid for the 750 calipers today which I thought I had lost out on because I lost his contact details.
So I am reselling the 550 ones back on and will await the 750 ones to turn up
Front and rear wheels all painted up now Slight set back, the rear caliper seems iffy now
Will try to get on some more this weekend and get this bugger done!! ____________________ Check out our tackle shop on Facebook:

Right
I will apologise up front for all the completely rubbish pictures. I blame a rubbish Nokia phone camera and very poor lighting but you will get the idea.
Finally got my arse back into gear after losing interest over the knackered calipers. Bought the GT calipers off Grav's mate Trikerdrew last week and fitted them up today. Little tight on the wheel and will probably need freeing off a little but the lever seems good so far and i'm hoping a few runs up and down the yard will put everything back into line properly and i'll sling it back in the workshop for a leak re-check and probably a final re-bleed. I did strip them down first and was pleased to see very little in the way of corrosion inside.
https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b342/jgillard/GTuptodate003.jpg
Spent a bit more time generally 'tidying' it up by adding several more coats of matt black paint
https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b342/jgillard/GTuptodate009.jpg
Thought I would attempt to take a better pic of my handy work on the improvised foot stall seat cover..
https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b342/jgillard/GTuptodate007.jpg
https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b342/jgillard/GTuptodate008.jpg
Spent a lot of time with the VHT paint to make the engine look lovely and dull black. Also did the whole exhaust system as well. Still need at least one more coat on the exhaust and you will probably notice I started blacking the silver parts of the engine too. When I said I wanted it Mad Max black I wasnt joking.
https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b342/jgillard/GTuptodate004.jpg
Now what could I do to the front to possibly make it look more convincing as a Mad Max style rat. I know, some sort of grill. Had a quick scout around and found the original oil cooler grill off my Bandit. Cut the original fitments off it then a little bend here, a little bend there and four self tapping screws with little washers and the grilled front end was born.
https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b342/jgillard/GTuptodate005.jpg
Starting to achieve the look I had set out for now
https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b342/jgillard/GTuptodate006.jpg
From the above picture you may or may not have noticed the bodged fork gaiters. There is nothing actually wrong with the stock ones apart from being a little split but it just wouldnt look right so so a decent wad of gaffer tape and it's beginning to look the part. I already tested the up and down play and the tape moves well with the original gaiters which are still underneath
https://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b342/jgillard/GTuptodate002.jpg
Overall i'm pretty happy with whats happened since I finished work at 5:30pm.
Assuming the ride up and down the yard a few times does it's job with the front brakes bedding in then I hope to get the back wheel off this week to finally get the puncture sorted out and while thats off i'm going to strip and rebuild the back caliper as it's also playing up now and then it should be ready for MOT
Beauty and the beast again in a different light.

Totally mad max style
Will it pass an MOT though? I mean i thought you had to have part of the body work protruding beyond the rear wheel? Hence why you get these daft reg plate hangers on the latest sports bikes ____________________ It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt, then it's bloody hilarious!!! |

McGee - Smartass
fraser - I know, and shame to me but i'm working with what I have and dont really want to spend out on a full rep kit. If I find something similar in the future it may well go on there though For now it will have to survive down the rat/max max style - sort of look
MattHirst - The bike is a 86 model which, due to it's age I was told that certain rulings for mot status can be slightly overlooked. The number plate in it's current position covers well over half the back wheel from the top, despite what it appears to on the pics. The rulings as I understand them is that a rear mudguard is not a legal requirement for a current mot (maybe this only applies to older bikes - i'm not really sure but it was quoted from the mot station.
Everything thats on there must work and everything on there must be securely attached. I think thats pretty much the basis for it. I would point out that the mot guy (and personal friend) has seen the bike as he has been supplying the bits and showing general interest. He has never mentioned that it wont go through the mot ok like it is ____________________ Check out our tackle shop on Facebook:

Anyone want to buy it? Make me a offer. Front brakes need adjusting up but have new (second hand calipers) on and the back brake needs bleeding.
A family/work issue has come up and somewhat changed my circumstances so i'm needing to get it shifted soonish
It's pretty much as the pictures portray. Everything else is up to MOT standard, just the brakes need doing. ____________________ Check out our tackle shop on Facebook:
