It is the MV. All the jap bikes are limited to 186 as mentioned.

Why? Is 160 not enough? hehe

I'm more interested in handling / braking / comfort.

Whats your definition of a fast bike? outright top speed?

i don't think that because a bike can do 190mph then it is the 'fastest'.

What i think is a fast bike is one that can get you to a reasonable pace quickly, but also have all the supporting factors like handling, positive braking etc.

Hi

Fastest production bike is the MV. ZZR14 would be faster if it wasn't restricted.

'busa was the claimed fastest bike, with claims of 200mph for the original unrestricted ones. Reality is that a normal one would be lucky to hit a true 186mph.

All the best

Keith

Why is it that anyone under the age of about 20 is obsessed with speed? Once a bike can do over about 120 its fairly academic.

Horsepower is the first thing I want to know about a bikes performance, and even I am thinking now that anything over 100bhp is pointless...

I can tell you which bike it isn't... I own it... Crying or Very sad

I'm more in to torque than HP, not interested in going fast particularly, but I would like to get to 90 odd as sharpish as possible.

Thumbs Up

Grass is always greener on the other side. Those who have been riding longer may have just found that the grass is not really any greener, just different.

I play silly b's doing top speed runs on runways. I have probably gone faster than 99% of the people on here. Yet even for that I am severely tempted with loosing some ultimate performance just to play on something a bit different (eg, could be interesting to try and get a naked GSX1400 with a turbo to get past 200mph).

All the best

Keith

Speed is all relative.

e.g. A harley 'feels' really fast at 100mph because it feels like it's gonna rattle you off the seat.

An unfaired bike feels faster than an faired one.

Usain bolt at top speed looks faster than those cyclists!! Well, he does to me anyway..... hehe

Anyway, VTR is plenty fast enough for me. More importantly, I love the way it gets there! Razz

Why cant people be obsessed with speed? Nothing wrong with that. I look for power to weight ratio when purchasing now, its all about the ratio...Wink

I read in MCN that they took a handfull of bikes to Germany and tested their top speeds, they used two reading the bikes readout and also a proper read out, using a laser gun I guess. Anyway out of them all, I cant remember all of them, but the best was the MV with a true reading of 193mph. The R1 hit 186mph. Which is standard of course. Very Happy

I wish there were some runways near me I could test my bike out on, Keith you are a lucky sod.

Yeah the MV has blagged it by avoiding the restriction. Not a hard thing to bypass though Very Happy
ZZR1400 is oficially the fastest de-restricted from what I've read, then the ZX-12R, Busa and Blackbird. The MV is apparently slower than the newer Busas once derestricted.

Hmm, trackdays would be kinda boring otherwise, so would 1/4 mile drag runs...

Probably too late to get organised but next weekend there is an event at Woodbridge near Ipswich. A hell of a lot closer to you than me. You need to enter in advance and technically be a member of the organisation (rule from the MOD who own the runway), but if you fancy it check http://www.straightliners.co.uk/community/ or http://www.200mph.net .

Don't know, but 2 speedo healers sorts out the ZZR1400 quite well while giving you an accurate speedo.

All the best

Thats not obsessed specifically with speed though is it? You're obsessed with power to weight ratio.

You don't go into a dealer and say "What'll it do mister?". You say "How much does it weigh, and what power does it make?".

Personally I think the most fun bike I've ever had was the one with the highest torque to weight ratio, which was my Buell XB12R.

Power to weight makes faster accelleration, which is my thing I must admit, and I did ask those questions(not the 'what'll it do' Q) when buying my R1, plus many more of course!

Putting that aside, I still see nothing wrong with being obsessed with speed, many older folk are.

And, Keith, I will take a look at those sites, thanks very much for the links. Thumbs Up Very Happy
