french call them motards, americans call them supermoto.

Bit of a sore point with the french so im told, with both countries saying they invented them.

No, no, no no no no no.

The french invented the Supermoto. In france the bikes are called Supermoto. The rider is a Supermotard.

Its just people who don't understand who refer to the bikes as supermotards.

Yeah, as I understand the french 'invented' supermotos and they had the Yamaha Tdr240 (the tdr240 was made for a french only market due to <250cc being cheaper to insure IIRC) designed for them (first factory made supermoto).
