Weston-super-mare beach race

Well after a week of deciding wether or not to go to the Weston-super mare beach race, I went . It was only because im going on holiday today that I was thinking about not attending it, but now ive watched it, how could of ever missed it !!

We didn’t go to the Saturday quad and sidecar event, but went to the Sunday’s mx/enduro bike event. We got there just in time for the start of the junior race, which was a little taster of the main event. Two-strokes screaming about all over the place, queuing up for jumps, there bikes getting stuck in the sand. But a big pat on the back to all of them, must have been hard work especially being a youngster.

Then a few hours break to wonder around the stalls, bars, food stalls, there was plenty to see and do.
During then the track was being changed for the main event, a whole new section was opened, and the start/finish straight was now longer, and was at least a mile long !

This was the first time we had been and therefore we wasn’t too sure what the racing schedule was. Then we found out, it was 1000 bikes all racing together for 3 hours !!!

We stood about ¾ way up the straight, in the new section, and when the time came, we saw clouds of smoke and heard roars of engine getting up to the starting line. The start was insane (video below) 1000 bikes racing down the aprx. 1 mile straight.

Then the rest of the race was ace, so many bikes, everywhere… getting stuck in deep sandy water, climbing big sand dunes, falling down big sand dunes, bikes overheating / seizing, being recovered. It was pretty intense offroading !!

Can’t believe it went on non-stop for 3 hours.

Anyway what an experience, and that was just spectating . Words and pictures can’t describe it, it’s the noise, smell, everything. Won’t be missing this again ! Maybe sometime in the future when ive got a proper enduro bike, I would like to take part (wouldn’t even try to attempt with my drz!!)

^^ This guy was using a speed gun on the bikes, we saw him do 3 bikes and they all said 76mph, maybe there is a top speed restriction for this event ?

Quite a spectacle isn't it! I went 2 years ago and it was wicked.

Were there any big names? Like Stephan Everts or David Knight?
