Impressive speed, but it was absolutely hilarious watching it start Laughing, camera work was awful as well.

Which speed record did it beat?

Was that a light-gate speed averaged each way?

I was under the impression the Kreidler record was for an old-school flying mile which frankly, fucks a light-gate speed up the arse in my book.

Oops - mind you I've not been on much this past month as I'm doing a lot of building & decorating indoors. I came across it whilst researching world records for some stuff I'm doing next year.

Didn't realise that liner had a turbo on it as well? On a 50cc cylinder FFS! It looks bigger than the smart turbo that SOND is fitting to a 400! How it ever makes any positive boost pressure id like to know? I wonder what the power is on that engine, and how long it would hold together? You need to know what your doing with a 50cc to make 16bhp+ so i can't see a turbo being able to add that much more power surely?

Haven't checked out any details on the power output but I'd be surprised if it made less than 20hp. Getting 3x normally asphirated power is commonplace on bike turbo engines, but I think you need to be something special (and have a big pile of parts) to achieve that with a tiny turbo stroker.

The old Kreidler GP bike used to put out 19hp so as Geri said, it would be surprising if it put out less than 20hp with that turbo on it.

The 3x possible and achievable power outputs you are talking about are i presume from big IL4's like Busa's CBR1100's and ZX/ZZR14's etc? Obviously you have to build the engine like a safe to make that kind of power figure reliably for 1000's of miles, and it would at least have to cost what ££££-£££££ to do so?

Nothing wrong with Busa's making 500bhp, but it's all about boost and how much air you can force into the lump with a huge turbo at high revs. Not very driveable or useable or even very much fun on a daily ridden do everything machine. But big credit and respect is due for sure to the guys who enter Dyno shootouts with said monsters, even if for the most part they are just very irrelavent to street riding and performance.

It's the same with car's when you have 2 litre turbo's making 400-600bhp+. It's all turbo and no engine! I like turbo charged engines, but i always think that if you want more than 100% more power than a nasp version of the base motor can realistically make, then why the hell not start with more cubes?

My first turbo kit made 300hp and was boosting a bit to quick to be really comfortable as a roadbike (though the current owner (also a member here) loves it. That's a 100% increase. My own bike is 500hp-capable and has great road manners. Easier to ride off-boost and less of a mid-corner rush than the smaller setup. Also, I should think that adding 10hp to a 5hp engine is easier than adding 360hp to a 180hp one. The work that needs to go into turbocharging a zx12-r to 3x output is quite extensive.

I think it'd be very difficult to run an AM6 engine with a turbo still inside of an RS50 frame. They are very tight inside the frames and judging by that image it wouldn't fit in.

Geri you should make it your next project to turbo an RS50!

Yeah I suppose a RS 125 would work out better.

Never thought about it. 2-stoke tuning is a bit of a dying art, at least with 4-strokes you can easily mess with the valve timing to reduce overlap. I wouldn't know where to start to do that with a 2-stroke. I gather there might possibly be a limit for reed-valve engines where boost pressure will hold the valve open, have to give that some thought.

Anyone know of a crashed r125 going cheap? I hear those minarelli engines are quite strong.
