Hey,

I was wondering if any one out there would be able to help me i have been driving the above bike for about a year and a half and really dont want to change i would happily work on this bike with no limit on how much cash i could spend and was basicly looking for options on how to make it faster.

I have -

Larger sprocket
Turn Out / Slash Cut Exhaust
Have also been told a lighter air filter (not sure about this one)

Is there anything else i could do, and does any one here think it would be possiable to drop a 250cc or bigger engine into it, or is this more work than gain.

Get a bigger bike, it is really not worth the money you will spend on it you will be lucky to get a few more BHP. I doubt any other engine will fit.

There is a 250cc engine for the marauder actually. Don't believe it was ever sold on the UK market but you could get one from the united states shipped? IIRC it kicks out <20bhp and gets a max real speed of about 75-80. That's only 10mph more than the 125. Try the US/ Aus eBays would probably be the best bet. Frame is the same so it will be easy to fit. Hope this helps. Thumbs Up

Cheers, getting some where now Smile, i did not realize the 250 would make so little impact, can i get bigger or would this involve a lot of work (frame cutting etc).

For the small increase in power it really isn't worth bothering doing. Modern 4 stroke 125's are really only designed to handle 14 bhp so any tuning will seriously shorten the bikes life, not to mention put large holes in your bank account.

The Marauder is fine as it is so keep enjoying riding it.

Nice wheelie by the way. Thumbs Up

Wasn't there a 400 marauder? Maybe worth keeping an eye out.

What exactly do you like about it?

You could:
Get a fireblade engine
Strengthen the frame significantly
Get new suspension
Get new brakes

If you want to make it faster, unless you have a lot of money you really like throwing away, a new bike makes much more sense.

Has it got the same engine type as the Gn's. They certainly made a 250 in the UK..

Just don't foget changing the engine for a larger block, will change the way the bike rides.

While you may like this bike now, after spending a fortune to gain a few mph, you could have got a whole new bike... That you may actually like a whole lot better than the one you have now.

The GN250 engine looks similar, and maybe will fit with only minor changes to the mounts etc? It might have only 20bhp, but that is definately 75-80mph, and the extra 7-8bhp over the 125 will improve acceleration noticably due to the extra torque. The engine is probably more receptive to further tuning than the 125 lump would be too!

What kind of power and speed are you looking for? I think most of us feel that 18-22bhp is the realistic maximum that a GZ125 should have for it's chassis to effectively use. There is no point in looking for more power than that, as the bike would have a hard time coping IMO.

The other options you could look into which are a bit pie in the sky, but seeing as you said money was not a big problem are:

1, seeing if there is a bigger bore version of the 125 engine used in another bike, or a big bore kit available? Combined with head work, and a larger carb, i think you could get up to GN250 power levels, but it won't be cheap.

2, Supercharging the 125 engine. Again totally pointless from a cost vs performance basis, but if you can get one of the really small superchargers suited to bike engines, then you might be able to find 50% more power. More hassle and expense than option 1, and unless you could engineer it all yourself then it's not really even worth thinking about.

Also what is wrong with the VZ800 marauder? Looks the same but larger, and packs more of a punch. I was considering it for first big bike but thought I'd get sports bikes while I was young. Don't want to be a sad old midlife crisis on a brand new R1 now do we? Wink

I bought one of these for my missus to try. I only rode it a couple of times and it was SH*TE! I sold it ASAP. If this is the best bike you have ridden the others must be really SH*TE! I have never felt so insecure and unsafe on anything I have ridden. NO power, NO brakes, CRAP handling. Even if you were to increase the feeble 11 h.p. these Chinese Suzuki's produce you will be adding to the other problems. Please do yourself a favour and try something a little more stable and an engine that actually allows you to accelerate away from traffic. Plenty of cheap 200/250's about that will be better than spending anything on a GZ125hs.

Maybe a few bike lesson would help Wink.
The GZ125 is marketed at first time riders. (easy to turn steady in slow and top end speeds.)

You could try ramming a spike up the exhaust, and upjetting the carbs. May gove you a bit more. May also be worth seeing if you can fit another silencer as the stock one is bound to be restrictive.

Most likely only give you a few more ponies but this can be done fairly cheaply.

Pod filter £8
Larger mainjet £2.50
Universal exhaust silencer £15-25 quid.

PostPosted: 14:50 - 12 Aug 2009    Post subject: marauder - FASTER? Reply with quote

its been bugging me for ages too...

I've found out the ECU on the marauder is different in spain, their bikes are supposed to be doing 75-80 (something near the redline in 5th?), the UK ecu is restricted someway - any how theres a few KW in it, I can get the spanish ECU but its almost £200, I was wondering how to break into my original ECU (in the knowledge that I can get one of those for £30 or so if I break it).

theres a plug for an ECU tester in the battery box, does anyone know what I need to at least have a go at tweaking it?

OR... as a last resort - who in the world sells an off the shelf ECU kit for a single cylinder engine?

you can get programmable universal ignition units for singles.

Try Boyer Bransden-they can probably sort you out something.

Bigger bike, problem solved.

Engine conversions are for people with loads of money to spare and wanting to do something really different with either a fancy engine or a fancy bike.

thats electronic ignition, I need electronic fuel injection.
i think it just needs a bit more fuel at the top end, it gives nothing at high rev's, the air intake and exhaust are restricted, but that's easy to fix, it's the EFI settings that I want to change.

I suspect the OP can ride just fine.

So I guess you would no longer consider yourself a 'first time rider' - so why not just get the 800 Marauder like Muzza says? Confused

What other bikes have you ridden, out of interest?

Erm, do they have fuel injection?
If it's a recent model that does, then surely it would be way better value to sell it and get a better bike. Infact, as I said to the OP, a new bike generally makes more sense.

i just quite like this marauder, it seems silly to sell it, my brother paid cash for it new, and the depriciation is terrible, it's only got 600 miles on it, basically if it will hold 60-70 comfortably I'll use it for years

i'm not really an experienced rider, i do spend most of my time on A roads and dual carriageways, the extra 10-15mph would just reduce confrontation from overtaking traffic, a fair bit of which is driven badly.
