Just let me know the

Hello Oilman. Have read many of your in depth posts on Skylineowners.com and have ordered from you several times too and have always been impressed with the service.

Welcome to BCF Smile

Hi

Thanks for that. We get a lot of interest of Skyline Owners so it's always good to pop on there. Hopefully it will be the same here.

Cheers

A particularly old thread, but hoping for some sort of reply Razz

Is car oil suitable for use in bikes with wet clutches?
For instance the same grade, same synthetic level etc etc. Only it doesn't say "for bikes" anywhere on the bottle...

It depends. If its an energy-conserving oil (for increased fuel economy) then possibly not. If its a regular any-old oil then possibly yes.

Best way to be sure is to get a bike oil.

Resurrecting an ancient thread and asking this old question. Lets see if this also runs to 4 pages of ped bois screaming about something they don't understand.

The short answer is that car oils are fine. A large number of people on here have done many years and many thousands of miles running bikes on oil that is not specifically sold as bike oil.

The big one to avoid has always been Castrol magnatec, which is known to cause clutch slippage. It always used to be (not sure now) a fairly basic mineral or just about semi synthetic anyway, so not great oil. Some modern ultra low friction car oils may also be problematic, but a lot of them would be the wrong grade anyway as cars move towards using thinner oils.

I used a diesel 10W40 semi synthetic that I buy from Costo in 20L drums. Been using it for years with no problems. If I used synthetic then I tend to go for bike oils, seeing as the price difference isn't that much - the real price difference is at the lower end of the market.

15/40 Diesel mineral in mine. I think its better in old engines (ran it on a 10/40 semi and it wasn't as happy as it is with the one I use now)

If anyone wants 15% off their order rather than the offered 10%, all you need to do is add stuff to the basket, go to the basket, click to close the tab you've got Opie Oils open in, then this window pops up offering you 15% off if you tell them why you're leaving the site.

Win. Thumbs Up

It's not all about the money, you pay for service not just goods. Constantly hunting down the cheapest price is detrimental in the long run.

You can ring us on 01209 202949 or email us on sales@opiepoils.co.uk We are open Monday - Friday, 8.30am - 5.30pm.

Cheers

Hi

I would use a 10w-40.

https://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-782-10w-40.aspx

The best oils there are the Silkolene Pro 4 and Comp 4, Motul 300v, Red Line, Amsoil, Shell Advance Ultra 4 and Castrol Power 1 Racing. The Motul 5100, Castrol Power 1, Shell Advance VSX and Silkolene Super 4 are good cheaper alternatives.

Cheers

Tim
