I remember when this incident first came to light and I am not sure whether this result is old or new news but I just saw it.

I've met a few soldiers and ex soldiers. So far every one has been a complete arse who has acted like he is the hardest man on earth and has diplomatic immunity. Certainly it seems like the police were in the wrong on this one, but i have no doubt he earned it.

Working from time to time in pubs & Clubs in garrison towns ie Bury-St-Edmunds and Colchester, I find the following.

The older soldiers 30+ are usually well behaved and dont need to prove anything or shout about who they are.
The younger squaddies are little cocks, who always have to prove how hard they are and bang the drum for thier regiment.
they are not in thier own town so they think it`s ok for all the worst behaviour they can think of to be used Sad .
They forget that they are ambassadors for thier regiment and people view the regiment with what they see of it`s soldier`s.

I Know that some of the NCO`s wont come into town because they dont want to be tarred with the same brush as the younger newer recruits that are acting like little "rambo`s".

No it doesn't but you don't know what was happening before the cameras started rolling. In these types of videos you have to keep in mind that something has happened to make them start filming, something that is missing from the start of the video.

Someone being drunk and abusive is no excuse for going overboard with violence, but it certainly makes it a bit more understandable.

You probably thought the dead brazilian had a bomb and ditched it.

Or the dead newsagent died of natural causes.

Of course policemen are violent and sometimes go further than they should. They act without supervision, and are more likely to be over-violent and not lose, than not use enough force and get injured themselves.

Police have always been violent as they have to use force to do their job. It's just that its only fairly recently with camera phones and youtube that everyone gets to see it.

I do know the full picture wasn't shown and they were not as squeeky clean as they are made out to be.
Also BCF love a good copper bashing.

While I agree the police are only human and react accordingly, could it not be said of the video footage, the reason they are filming is because something did happen? Unless the person recording can see into the future and know something untoward is going to occur, its natural that many of these videos will miss the initiating action.

Although I also understand the media and other outlets (blogs, youtube etc) will edit according to their own agenda. I'm wary of voluntary Special Constables, I dare say many wish to make a positive difference to their communities, but such is my cynicism, I believe a fair percentage are infuatuated with the uniform and the power they imagine it bestows upon those wearing it.

Thumbs Up

Have see the cops do the same to other people who resist getting the cuffs on.

I think it was more to do with discrepencies between the court statements and the CCTV/camera phone footage.
