Ok, first of all i know i have already made this post but i had a lot of updates to add and for some reason i kept getting errors when posting a reply so had to do a entire new topic Sad.

Right then...Brought the Gilera Sc 125 (57 plate) from surrey for £940, not a bad price in my eyes needed a fair amount of work but mostly cosmetic so this was no problem for me so i took it on.

From just scouting over the bike the issues was:
Back brake not working.
Needed entire respray and several cracks and chips repairing
Lack of love and care Smile

The bike had being primered on several panels (Tank , Nose cone)
EVEN THE SCREEN!

So to begin was the brake, on further inspection the disc was rusted and cracked in several places. (perhaps from being used a lot then cooled to quick or other way round)
https://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash2/hs569.ash2/149160_1714441300534_1223235604_1949042_4143787_n.jpg
Brought a part warn disc on ebay for £7 bargin if i say so myself.
Comparision picture....

Now when the brake was pumped it wasnt moving the pads previous owner said he thinks its leaking after looking a little bit more we found the piston inside the caliper was jammed after several hours trying to part it it simply popped out we cleaned it put it back together and all was well Smile. the previous owner had already changed part of the brake and given us the old one incase.
Comparision photo....

The entire brake together and on bike....

Next was the paint work which seemed close to impossible to restore but after a few days of sanding it and filling the cracks, chips and scratches they was as good as new...To feel with your eyes closed Wink heres a few pictures after sanding and before....

Good example of a repair here the back seat panel had a fairly bad crack at the very back.

Just a few pictures of the bike naked...

https://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs922.snc4/73568_1714438380461_1223235604_1949028_275588_n.jpg

Next i had to fit the exhaust but i didnt realise till it was too late that when i was starting the bike to hear it it had leaked shit everywhere!

https://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs1156.snc4/149815_1760751018248_1223235604_2037377_3336541_n.jpg

A close up....

https://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash2/hs492.ash2/76585_1760751258254_1223235604_2037379_1010363_n.jpg

Fitted a screw clip, and some exhaust paste but we took it back off too check the engine etc of the bike...Can i just say the bike is built in such a way that if you want to get inside of anything you must remove the airfilter which means removing the sub frame and exhaust! NOT GOOD!

Either way i found petrol + rag +elbow grease = Clean!!

Quick photo for comparision with before...

https://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash2/hs586.ash2/150810_1759393464310_1223235604_2034526_526109_n.jpg
Also the frame was slightly dull not frome not being cleaned but even from knew they seem dull after several polishing sessions it came out like a mirror except a few water marks :'(
Sorry didnt get a before photo to compare.

https://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs993.snc4/76665_1759393864320_1223235604_2034528_5803522_n.jpg

Now the brakes sorted frames clean entire bike had a good scrub (Used over a litre of petrol to clean!)...But can i just say how much of a good cleaner it is Thumbs Up
Next was to paint the panels, it just so happens my brother has painted several bikes and we planned to use his gigantic compressor however.I was owed a favour by someone who just so happened to own a vehicle repair shop who said he would use left over paint from a car job and use that he said it wouldnt take that long as i said i just want it black any type even Matte.

TWO WEEKS AFTER!
(In black panther with silver speckles)
The speckles are actually barley visible and can i say the photos do the paint NO JUSTICE AT ALL! looks much better in person he also sprayed the inside of the fairing black to Smile. All for £100!!! When we went back to collect the panels the receptionist told us it should have cost £450!
But heres the poor photo's

The bike didnt come with indicators..i figured they might cost £20 each second hand maybe..? not at all £70 brand new was the cheapest since ebay was clearly out of stock Laughing
I still need to invest in a screen planning to get a double bubble dark black tinted (£70 best price so far).hense why the old one is still on atm.
I fitted the front nose cone and new clean headlights and brand new indicators just to get an idea of the final piece.
I realised after putting the tank on the old screws, clips etc make the new paint look poor! Invested in some non drip black gloss paint going to go over them tomorrow and put all the other fairing on! cant wait!
But heres the front fairing with the old screen and no screws.

After having my first bike (DNA 50 LOL) stolen i thaught a mear £20 is a good investment on a alarm.
The previous owner a pretty cool person if i do say recommended a cyclone alarm....heres a few pics of mine Mr. Green

https://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs980.snc4/75377_1759395424359_1223235604_2034536_1221529_n.jpg

Good work ash!

I'm so glad to see her looking so good. Now hurry up and get all the panels on Thumbs Up If you need help with the alarm let me know and I'll talk you through installation.

There was no need to spend 70quid on indicator mirrors though, you could have quite easily retrofitted some normal indys onto the panels and used normal cheapo mirrors.

Yeah i thaught about this but i would have had to repair the already cut holes in front nose cone! which seemed effort but i was well happy when they came....decided when its fully finished going to put it for sale on here for like 1900 Very Happy if it dont sell ill just keep it Very Happy and thanks it came with pretty clear instructions tbh so i tihnk it will be ok Smile

No prob,

I wouldn't wire in anything but the alarm and indicator flashers though. If you wire in the immobiliser, remote start etc they can (and often do) go wrong and leave you stranded.

If anyone wants your bike they will chuck it into a van and cut out the immobiliser at a safe place anyway so no point having it IMO.

Thumbs Up

Sounds like you talk from experience...i think im gonna hook the remote start up to begin with but as soon as it fails ill just scrap it...maybe again in summer though becuase it wont start the bike if its cold straight away will it...were as in summer it probly will Very Happy so i wanna give it ago but thanks.

ok i mentioned i didnt want to use the old screws clips ect becuase they looked sooo poor so i sprayed them today instead of buying more...quick pic....

EDIT: Found few screws i left on the bike that need spraying funnily enough the most important ones (hold tank in place) (most important because they are on show more...

So im litterally right this second going to spray them super dry them with hair dryer get all the panels on before dark and get some photo's to share Smile...

On request few pictures of the bike before i got it....

Honestly these pictures make it look better the primer was far from smooth the coat was very thick aswell had alot of run lines ect...

Even further back in time it was worse , the owner just tried his best to make it possible to sell it was like this ....

https://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak-ash1/v5206/221/98/784455496/n784455496_8463555_1945032.jpg

The owner took apart and cleaned the top half of the engine aswel and i got to admit all that red paint must have took more elbow grease to get off than i would of been able to give...however the wheels was just painted over in black again so when i cleaned my frame in petrol and sum spilt on the wheel the black paint came off and hey presto it was red again AHA :'( hense why i want to get them powder coated

Sorry havnt put any pitures up my camera's USB broke today ...but even worse....the bike hasnt had anti-freeze in i knew i should of checked but thaught it would be ok covered up in a concrete garage...but it completley froze the pipes the radiator spent about 3 hours trying to thaw it tonight poor hot water over and through the pipes ect....managed to get it all out and filled it with pure anti-freeze so if it gets just a little warmer and the're any bits of ice still in there it will just mix with the anti freeze sorry people will keep you updated.

P.S had to take the tank , belley panels and side panels off to access the water pipe's/radiator properly! NOT A HAPPY BUNNY! Sad

Cool project but what the hell did someone do to the bike in those last 2 pictures? Was it vandalised?

Ok, i guess its time for a update..maybe even too late,
But after seeing a friend do some pretty good handy work on his racing r1...I got completely motivated and left my house at about 8pm just after all the madness on Coronation street Wink ...And i was set on finishing the bike before i came in ...Which ended up being around 2:30 in the morning ...as you can see the time im writing this.....

I purchased a bandage that repaired end cans for cars (preferably). But common sense told me it would do just as good for attaching my exhaust i also purchased some exhaust paste....however when tidying up the garage my step dad found a heavy duty jubilee clip in his BT van..(The ones we tried before kept snapping or unwinding)...so we applied the paste then the jubilee clip and hey presto it worked no leaks nothing.....however the bike wouldn't start...again Crying or Very sad

Seriously worried now the ice may have destroyed the bike i took a break to think things over plus i needed a cup of tea/kitkat anyway....going back to the garage i checked the carb and a chunk of ice fell out...SHIT! after trying the bike more and more it did start and kept cutting out (think due to cold and not being started or even touch for a month and a half...so fingers crossed it will start better tomorrow now its had a bit of a run....

(i forgot to mention the battery was flat so had to jump it to start it first , but after it kept cutting out just charged the battery to make it a little easier)

after all this was over it must have being about 12:00pm

now this is going to seem like WTF to most people out their...but this is my first project and first time i even had a proper look at a bike and taken it apart...so i spent the next 2 hours sorting out panels and screws and what screws went where ect ect and putting it all together including (taking the entire front fairing off which ment headlights indicators just to put the screws in for the visor) so wasnt all that bad...Plus i would now like to mention the layout of this bike is dreadful!....i would recommend the bike 100% but to get anywhere in the bike you have to remove fairings and the sub frame and the air filter so it can be a nightmare...

Now the bikes done its pitch black out side i can hear fox's making their funny noise's so i go in make another cup of tea sit back and admire the bike Smile......

Pictures will definitely be up tomorrow might be on my [hone depends if i can find a USB to fit my camera but some pictures will 100% be uploaded..Thanks.

P.S
If your interested at reading peoples bike projects can i reccomend you visit Damon and his R1 rebuild...really cool

Sorry i know no pictures ....my USB for the camera has broke...went and got a spare off my grandad just so illl get some up soon,

Bad news is i found a pipe that leads to absolutly nowhere ??? quite a chunky thick pipe so i took some panels off to have a look and cracked a panel!! repaired it and looks as good as new tbh and its under neath anyway so wasnt noticable took me a good half an hour to realise....

did little shopping spree...two stroke, tank pretector, 'L' Plates unfortunatly Embarassed more break fluid just to fill it up pumped up the back tire which was flat...maybe from sitting still for months, might have let it down when i collected it though so it fitted on the trailer cant remember. so not all good tbh with the crack and the pipe...will sort the pipe out tommorow and have little photo spree Very Happy

Maybe the big pipe is just a breather or something?

Yeh thaught that but its got a click on the end to tighten it somewhere...but this might have been put on by mistake ? ill have a closer look tommorow but i am hoping its just a breather cant believe i didnt see it already...

Note:Really pissed me off as its soo long winded to access any part of this bike.

Besides that anywhere people reccomend for powder coating the wheels needed it done as cheaply as possible would just spray them but they have like a million layers of red and black already from the past so would be better to get it done pro.

Just so you can see how thick it is ?

This is the crack i done when fixing the fairings in place..
its held together by insulation tape on the photo

UPDATE: found the pipe was for the air filter which once we took apart was full of water!!! (maybe from my consistent washing down)
put the pipe back in place dried out the filter box and then the filter its self ...should have added some filter oil but haven't got any to hand will pick some up tomorrow after its m.o.t ....The intake for the air filter didn't have a cover on either ??? will have to see about this although the air filter its self filters the air and now all the fairings on i cant see water getting into it so should be ok...
Fairings ? all on in need of clean maybe a wax,
the frames in desperate need of a polish and clean also ...then it is all done and dusted only thing perhaps maybe some decals or graphics?

Got a few photo's with the fairings on for Damon...couldnt get great photo's due to it being dark out side and the garage is a squash will do more tomorrow maybe fit alarm ?

i know she needs a clean and polish but its cold and dark and i need a cuppa tea and biscuit Mr. Green

EDIT:
Many people probably thinking that screen doesn't looks healthy ?

found a double bubble in dark black but their £70!!!

so since its winter and the screen looks alot like a ice block in person i may just leave it and maybe put some letters on saying ICE COLD or just ICE and leave it at that for now

anyone got a name for her ? was thinking bumble since the front end reminds me of a bee aha Smile

Definately save up and replace that screen. Bike looks good painted in black although I think you should have kept the spray painted smiley face on the seat!

thanks
Yeah after some feedback i think i might although it does look better in person than in pictures but i cant help but think a black tinted DB screen would suit...And i know the smiley face was great, i didnt remove it though the previous owner did. Crying or Very sad
