|
|
Morning all, some of you may remember I bought a insurance write off
ZX6R about a couple of months ago ? well I stripped her down to try and
assess the damage and luckily it was as I had hoped !
The Rad had a small ding in the side but held water. It had been pushed
back a touch and squashed the fan, but I rebuild the bracket replaced
fuse for the fan and poked a few wires and bobs your uncle
All the clocks and headstock etc. were fine - and after a new battery
was charged up I found it had only done 2900 miles (result ! but guess I
should have really checked that before buying )
One of the forks had a small scratch/ding, but looked straight to me ? I
jumped up and down - twiddled the suspension through the whole range
(which did make a difference) then in a moment of pure engineering
brilliance decided if it could stoppie in a straight line it was o.k -
test passed ! & suspension set back to an old copy of performance bikes.
Bodywork was pretty fooked - so new mudguard and full fairings were in
order ! took the brakes to pieces and gave them a good overhaul (Its
amazing how 2 months of being left outside can make stuff go manky
(sp?) cleaned up the chain, fresh Rennesports and it was time to test
it out..........
Rockingham's quite an impressive venue ! not sure exactly why we would
want a oval ring in the u.k ? but never mind. It turned out to be most
pathetically organized and down right dangerous track day I have ever
been on ! thanks to Focused events and Rockingham circuit at
10.00 we finally got underway to find the wrong circuit was booked ? so
we had too many riders..... result ? no Instructors on track - meaning
no pace setting or warm up laps & just general carnage on the track ? we
had a red flag in every session of the morning in ALL groups ? there was
all sorts going on - wheelies in the pit lane and on track, also myself
and 5 people who had booked inters plus 2 from the fast group got stuck
in the novice ?? and they wouldn't let us change ?????
The circuit stopped proceedings and insisted on a second briefing before
the afternoon..... I could go on but i'm sure you'll read about it in MCN
or something as it came very close to a full scale riot ! They have
already sent me a letter to apologise and said an offer of compensation
will follow. to them for taking responsibility.
Anyway - I did about 30 laps the WHOLE day so I cant say much about the
track -apart from it's a bit pants the way the infield joins the oval
with a massive bump ! but the zx6r worked fine (fan stopped working
though ?) not totally convinced on the forks.... seems to want to drop
away on the lefts ? I think I might send away and have forks rebuild by
Maxton or someone. Apart from that the bike feels good .... I put the
forks up 5mm which made things a bit of a handful ! but its just toooo
slow - sprockets are on the way !

Looks good, shame about the state of the trackday, you should claim you're now scared to go on track days because of the mess that they made of that one if you want a lot of compensation.
Nice one on posting those pictures, I've managed to find the pictures I never got to see on my track day, tempting to order a couple now though. |
