I just got a cb500 and am looking to get a top box and rack like on my old xr. tried ebay which has universal top boxs for peds and stuff not for a bike without a rack to begin with

just wondering if any of you guys knew any sites of it anyone had one they didnt want or a spare? I'd obviously be prepared to pay

I found this rack which seems a little pricey

https://www.motorbikesandparts.co.uk/shad-topbox-rack-honda-cb500s-9403-p-10825.html

EDIT: yes i know the top says cd500 not cb500 >_<...fat fingers

Why not get a renntec sports rack for about 70 quid and then a universal fitting top box from ebay. I bought a "Take Cover" top box on ebay which is a copy of the GIVI E450 I think.

One thing they do mention on their racks is a weight limit But I've never had any problems with mine whatever weight i've had in it . Mine is attached by two bolts either side of the pillion seat and can be removed fairly quickly. I'll upload some pictures of the fittings, plate and box later if you want.

Hopefully give you an idea, the white stuff inside the topbox is just some padding sheets I stuck in to stop the box scratching my helments.

TH, do you have any shots of the topbox and bike from a distance, to get an idea of scale?

51L sounds ideal actually.

Also, is it actually easy to "remove and attach" as it says? Like, take it off, stick a load of stuff in it, put back on?

I think the advert said 51L but it looks to me like a copy of the GIVI E450 box which is 45 litre.
And yeah, removing it takes 2 secs.
I'll upload some more pictures later for scale when i'm home.

looks good in the hood

no horror story to tell us as I've seen on some ebay/amazon comments?

saying when travelling the topbox flew off after it's first ride !

I never had any problems with mine maybe the numpty just placed it on and never did the bolts up...or never put them in

Nope it's been fine, I'm pretty impressed with it for the money, I can't see it breaking off.
Before this one I had one the oxford type ones, this one is much more stable and the quick release is much better that the bolt you had to use on the oxford type one.

£100 all in with the rack sounds pretty decent.
Thanks for the pictures. It actually looks smaller than I'd thought from a distance.

Nice bike too.

Believe me they do.......

Its the catch fittings inside that give way.

Mine took a trip down a M'way. Thankfully the limit was 40 mph and the guy behind managed to stop before running it over. All it had in at the time was some bungies....

Mine is now bolted down through the base to the rack frame.

Just how often do people actually remove the box......

This one has holes in the bottom that match up to holes on the plate and came with some extra bolts if you wanted to bolt the box to the plate, I haven't bothered yet, if I feel they are getting worn I'll attach the bolts Thumbs Up

ok this may be abit of a stupid question but as there arent too many cb500 being sold off for spares on ebay

would a rack from any other particular bike fit this model?

EDIT: I found this on ebay?

https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280862077152

assuming that would fit all models of cb? I have a s reg standard cb500

I can't see why that one wouldn't fit.

Dont have a clue if any other rack for a different bike would work with your bike. I'd imagine not.
