Its a nice ride into work now as I have just moved house (further away from work) and this is helping me get my confidence up, try and corner faster than 30!! and generally enjoy it!
So off I go, came accross a tractor, so waiting untill road is clear and all safe (checking side roads etc) I pass it.
Then way ahead on the road I see something.... Couldnt make out what it was, but it was veering from both sides of the road!!
Get closer and see its a riderless horse (all tacked up so rider must have fallen off!) The horse is galloping wildly and even bucking too! So slowing down and deciding how to handle this as I approach, didnt know whether it was better to go VERY slowly past and hope it calmed down or to go slowly past and hope that it calmed down.
Well descion taken out of my hands when a van approached in the oposite direction!
The horse was heading full onto it!!
Omg it was like something out of a cartoon when it tried to stop, and horse shoes dont stop quick on tarmac! But it did and all were safe!
Now what are the odds of something like that happeneing to someone? |
i wanna say it depends where you live but if the horse rider was stupid enough to take a horse than can be that badly spooked out onto a public road then chances are actually pretty high.
i worked with horses as my old boss' wife had a stallion and 2 shetlands. the stallion was a prize winning thorough breed or something like that, but it was VERY nervous around roads and cars, if you tried taking it out onto the road it would buck you off and bolt for it.
a horse rider needs to learn if the horse is road ready or not.
course those twats that blast thier horn as they go past a horse at 120mph doesnt help ____________________ BCF's biggest cunt list: Cansa, Pits, Rob |

Bloody lethal beasts. Airbag vests were initially invented for horse riders, not bikers.
Anyway, my takeaway point from this is that there was some Jeremy or Jocasta lying folded backwards in a ditch somewhere nearby, and you didn't think to look for them.
Early intervention is vital in these cases, there'll be nothing worth saving if gypsies get to their wallet and jewellery first. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

My old dear was on a race-horse many years ago when it decided to bolt. She managed to hang on for over half a mile of manic boltery, then fell off when it finally stopped ( ) and broke her pelvis and dislocated a shoulder.
A couple of years after that she had one put its hoof through her windscreen up by Epsom race course (while she was driving the car).
I went on one once and fell off as soon as it started to gallop. Horses suck arse. ____________________ "There's the horizon! Ride hard, ride fast and cut down all who stand in your way!" |
