My motorbike is certainly old enough to qualify for a build thread and if I can get hold of some new stickers, it'll look like a restoration job, so I thought I'd start a thread for a record of what I've done.

These are the pictures from the eBay auction.

So far I've opened up the rocker cover and checked the CCT and valve clearances, and all was well. I've also opened up the clutch case to get at the oil filter.

This is what greeted me. Almost.
Obviously it was in one piece at first! In Teflon Mike's thread there's an excerpt from the Haynes manual saying if there's any holes at all, to replace it. I'd be tempted to leave it as it was if the holes were small but these are pretty significant so out it came.

Nowhere on the internet is a replacement filter for this bike to be found, so I've ordered some wire mesh (grade 40, if you're interested) that matches this so I can cut a piece to size and refit it. The metal frame isn't going to take replacements too many times but I hope I can get away with only needing to do this once.

I sure wish I could find my massive cable cutters...

Once that's done, it's time for more oil!
I found some high temp silicone gasket sealer so I'm going to use this to patch up the exhaust as a temporary measure. A friend has offered to help fix it up, but I'm going to get new silencers for it in the very near future anyway.

After the exhaust the next things on the cards are patching the tank paint job up and replacing the decals, and then it should be looking sweet.

I fixed the pictures. Oops.

The replacement wire mesh came today. The wire itself looks to be ever so slightly thicker. I don't think this will be too much of an issue but I suppose we'll find out, lol. It's a hell of a lot sturdier than the old stuff which means it shouldn't get torn by anything.
I suppose if I keep on top of keeping it clean there won't be any issues.

I had a couple of attempts first getting the size dead on. Your best bet is to cut the new filter down to the outside of the frame and then shave a millimetre off at a time so that it fits.

Finished product, ready to go on.

I'm going to have some dinner and then cram this filter back where it goes and fill it up with oil and start it up again.

Next is to find the holes on the exhaust and squirt some of this silicone stuff on there to see if plugging the holes make it run a little better. I may also take off the air filter to see what condition that's in.

In the near future either a proper patch up job on the exhaust or new silencers.

I've messaged someone on facebook about a quote for custom decals but they appear to have died, or gone on holiday, or have had a lobotomy. Annoying!

Everything's back together, it seems to work. Oil topped up and all that.

The silicone stuff isn't much use for the exhaust. It's covered in holes :/ One of the front pipes is done in, the other one is OK.

The horn and headlights weren't working. They worked when I bought it but they packed in so I opened that up to take a look. No disconnected wires so I tested the horn and it's quite loud when you're that close. I put the bulbs back in and everything lit up. I poked the wires a bit and it flickered so obviously something's amiss there. Maybe the wires are knackered, maybe they're loose, but I have other things to do so that's it for today!

Nice thread. They're cool little bikes these. Surprised you can't get the filter from Honda. I've never had issues getting bits for my old Bros 400.

edit: It's a 15422-399-000 as found https://www.cmsnl.com/honda-cb125td-superdream-1982-england_model18943/screen-oil-filter_15422399000/

Absolutely amazing website that Mr. Green

Ah, you've got to be in the know you see Wink At least you know it's there for next time. I often use it to find part numbers and then you often find they are readily available from David Silver spares or eBay.

Today's update, there was some duff wiring in some of the headlight's connectors so I've tightly wrapped it in electrical tape and at the very least it's not flickering when I wiggle the connector.

The fucking horn isn't working properly though. I don't really know where it's knackered. It seems pretty simple - wire from the switch into the main bit of the loom, it goes through the massive connector to the ignition switch and then towards the horn.
Somewhere along the lines of that, somewhere close to the headlight, is a dodgy connection I can't find. When I press the horn it clicks or it works, but I haven't found the bit causing it. Normally it works when the headlight's out but when I cram it in it stops.

I wouldn't mind a working horn, haha, I think it will be handy.

I have to say, the wiring is seriously tightly packed in there.
