I need to clone my C drive over to a new bigger drive
in the past I'd have used Ghost, but its several years since I cloned a drive
needs to work with Win 7

thanks in advance

I am 99.9% sure if you create a win7 image using the win7 built in software you can use that on your new drive. You may need the win7 disk to get started on the new drive

yes you can do it that way but a lot of messing about
I have 3 drives to sort out and 2 are full of data and different OS installed
I need to clone to a small 350gb drive then boot to it clear one drive over to the other
then remove its partitions and then clone back from the 350 to a 1Tb

I looked at clonezilla but it won't do it the destination needs to be equal to or bigger than the disk being cloned

see my other post
clonezilla can't go from a larger partition to a smaller one

partition to be cloned = 490gb but only 230gb used
drive to send partition to = 350gb

linux/gparted (dedicated gparted live cd even)

shrink huge partition to size of data (after defrag of course)
dd if=/dev/sda of=/dev/sdb (sda=source, sdb=destination, don't get it wrong Razz)
resize cloned partition to fill the new drive
run fsck over it to make windows happy

or shrink then clonezilla, would work too

Me too.

If you are sure all the data from the image could fit the smaller disk, i.e. it won't be written to the wrong disk space, you can check the option "-icds".
