Sup guys?

So I got this the other day. I won't shed too much light onto how and why. But I fucking love the rugged (Fucked) styling and the no nonsense (Idiot) approach.

Trouble is, the v5 says 'Yamaha' and states the model as.. nothing. It has an R1 tail, and that's about all I know. Neutral

Any ideas? FZR?

Have you checked behind the Maxxis sticker? When ever I see a sticker on a swingarm I think hmmmmm is that hiding a dent where it's been down the road

Definitely a Yamaha FZR1000R Exup of 1989 vintage, with the three position stepped pre-load adjusters on the fork leg tops (see my profile pic)

Probably worth about £400 in that condition - if that Rolling Eyes

It has an EMC Race shock fitted as well.I had one of those and it blew its seal during a 'spirited' ride along the A272 many years ago.I tried to get it repaired but EMC folded years ago so it was scrap.

Yes it is an FZR 1000 EXUP, 1990/91, but not Genesis, that was the earlier (first) FZR1000.

And the post entry times on here are still an hour behind...

Yes it is an FZR 1000 EXUP, 1990/91

The 1990/1991 FZR-R had stepless pre-load adjusters

Thanks guys, Yeah I thought it looked alot like the FZR. My only other experience with a bike like this was my 1995 GIXXER 750 WS! Wasn't a good experience either.

But I really like this and it has lots of potential I think.

Like has already been said and you've probably already done this already but i would just check it over carefully make sure nothings bent or damaged its very likely its been in accident at some time in its life. The r1 tail unit fits surprisingly well and doesn't look that out of place imo, but i would check how secure it is possibly even take it off and look at the sub frame because according to this https://heath.agdog.com/fzr/workbench/1999_r6_tail/index.shtml you have to do a fair bit of grinding and cutting to get it to fit.

Yeah I've had a good look over it. The rear tail section is a masterpiece in its self..

https://i1227.photobucket.com/albums/ee433/RV02-Sachs/DSC_0040.jpg

Chopped the old subframe down to about ten inches, then bolted the new subframe to those bits. Horrendous really.

Although, it's dead straight, looks good and is strong!

I meant, from afar. You can't tell the horrendous ideas that went into just cutting the old subframe and bolting the new one to it. I mean, atleast spend another couple of hours and weld it all together and tidy it up. You can't tell until you take a good look at the rear end that it's been bodged.

Pull it all to bits and properly and safely re-build the chassis, bearings, brakes and go over all the electrics. It'd be wise checking the frame and forks are straight beforehand.

Your £250 into it, and another £2000 should see you with a fairly nice rider at the end of it!

I think that an extra £2k would be a bit OTT if you just want to tidy things up.Until you do the basics then there may well be no need to spend money on new bearings.I am still using the same rear end bearings on my 1990 FZR-R having done close to 50k on the bike.

As for that seat, maybe fit one meant for a Yamaha OW01

There are a few bits and pieces for sale for early Exups on www.exup1000.co.uk Wink
