Which part of the MOT test manual says anything about having a stop light being a reason for failing the MOT?

"If a stop lamp is fitted, it must meet the requirements of this inspection"

This bit..

This inspection applies to: all machines, except those which have neither front nor rear position lamps

Adding it would make a light visible, which REQUIRES all lights and you'd need all lights, but be my guest, drop it in for an MOT.

I've done probably 4 now, you can't have a brake light.

Also, this is wildly out of date Wink

Yes, that says that bikes which have front and rear lights have to meet the stop light requirements and it also says underneath that about how if a stop lamp is fitted then it must meet the requirements.

There is nothing about having a stop light being an MOT failure.

I already know of two places where I can go and get a daytime MOT for a bike that has a brake light. Razz

Ok thanks for all the info / crying.

I popped in to my mot place today and he said he wouldn't fail me for having one without having other lights so I'm happy with that.

I would of added one anyway... Id rather a pull than getting hit from behind

That.

I wonder what would happen with the police and insurance companies when a bike with no brake light has someone go into the back of them.

The MOT requirements are different to the construction and use regulations so just because you've got an MOT doesn't mean that your vehicle is roadworthy.

Obviously he will inform his insurance that he has no lights fitted and will not be riding between certain times and on overcast days. Aiming for the lower premium but actually being shafted.

Also gonna notify the DVLA of colour change init.

Only reason why I am doing it is to ensure I limit myself just to fair weather ride outs.

Damn totally forgot about the change in colour!!

Dunno. Someone crash into me and we'll find out? Its insured as having no lights, and DVLA just approved it for road use so theoreticly it's their fault as per.

What do the DVLA have to do with it?

Not having a brake light is just asking for trouble.

The MOT requirements are not the same as what is required to be road legal.

Just fit a brake light. Thumbs Up

My mille has a normal mot with no indicators.

I just taped over the indie switch when I took it in.

What happens if you legally have no brake light and someone rear ends you because the weather was shite? Surely having no indication you are breaking means you are partially at fault?

Edit: Just read the thread and saw it was actually discussed Laughing

Isn't the daytime MOT for the purpose of you taking a show vehicle or even a race vehicle via public roads to an event? From what I've seen most race vehicles have some form of flashing red light on the back for when visibility is bad on track. If anything you think not only should it pass for a daytime MOT but should be encouraged as it means some cock breath is less likely to rear end you

So the fairings came and pretty impressed. Need to think of a colour combo.

Here is the progress thus far

Out for a ride yesterday and my bike starts steaming like a kettle.

Turns out the radiator is cracked. Put some rad seal in and worked for around 5 mins but the rad was too far gone.

Whilst waiting for a van to come pick it up, me and a mate thought some pics were in order

Picked up a new rad today, fitted it with a mate so out for round 2 tomorrow!

So my total spend including the bike and beer tokens has come out at £900. (Edit: did say £800 before but mis-calculated) Not bad at all!!!
