Saturday evening at a mate's for overnight camping in his garden with a couple of others from FOC-U (Fazer Owners Club-Unofficial).

https://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b550/nicknicklxs/Sunday13thMarch2014029_zps60e51187.jpg~original

Then a run up to the Raven cafe, Whitchurch, on Sunday morning, to meet up with more FOCcers from all points, N,S,E &W.

https://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b550/nicknicklxs/Sunday13thMarch2014008_zps2393bae5.jpg~original

Then a ride to the Ponderosa.

https://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b550/nicknicklxs/Sunday13thMarch2014017_zps7ebf3fea.jpg~original

From there on to Bala, where the northern and southern groups split to go home. Us southerners hit on a sublime road that took us from Bala to Welshpool, starting with the B4391 - not sure of the exact route as we followed a mate's sat nav, but it was a real stunner. Got it on vid, but no decent stills alas. But I will definitely head that way again!
A brilliant day on great roads with good company in the sunshine - this is what it's all about! Very Happy

That first tent looks like the Lidl £15 jobbie; if so, how does the owner find it?

That's the one. He binned it rather than take it home Laughing

I dunno, one of the guys bought it just before this trip, but he didn't use it as our host had already put up the bigger tent. So another of the guys used it, but he didn't say much about it TBH. The owner decided it was too small for him, and at £15 he wasn't going to quibble.

Personally, I think it would be ok for a dry weekend, but not much more. If you have soaking wet kit, there'd be nowhere to stash it overnight. It looked pretty short, so if you're quite tall, best avoid it.

tl;dr Today was definitely a game of two halves. Started badly, ended epicly! 260 miles done. Thank you Mr Italian man. Pics at the end.

Last night I found myself in front of google maps, looking across the coast line. Found this place called Lulworth Cove in Dorset.
130 miles from Guildford. Time for a little adventure Smile

Left at 9:45 and hit a wall of traffic on the A281. Filtering where possible, but there are a load of solid lines and I still haven't got handle on the legality of "stationary" traffic in terms of crossing solid lines. So I sat in queue's like a dick while loads of other bikes went passed. 45 minutes and I'd travelled 6 miles! Normally a 10min journey.

Now I had some grasp of what this bank holiday hell is, wasting a sunny day overheating with a bunch of other miserable brits. Decided to abandon the journey, just head out to Horsham for a hoon and come back. Stopped in Cranleigh for a brew and an Italian dude asked me where Dunsfold was as he was going to the classic car show and was lost. **** me, of course. It's bank holiday and Dunsfold has loads of shows on during the year around bank holidays, creating gridlock for the surrounding roads. Maybe the traffic isn't generally so bad after all.

10:45 and Lulworth is back on! Hit the A272 and it's amazing, no traffic, bliss, can't believe my luck.

The A36 sucked balls, got to Salisbury then my phone + gps died. Battery gone in 4 hours! Tried one of the 2 spare batteries and the phone kept freezing and turning off completely.
Then realised I left the USB charger at home. Arse. Tried the second spare battery, that worked. So I only had 1 battery for the rest of the day but was still 50 miles from Lulworth. I did think about woosing out again, but had come a fair way and had been rewarded so far. Worse case, just resort to buying a map in a petrol station. Cracked on.

Wow. The A354 was stunning as was the road through Winterborne, Tout Hill and Newton Hill. Very pretty and great fun to ride!

Properly loving the Striple at this point Smile

Arrived at Lulworth Cove 14:30. 5 hours after leaving the house. The cove was nice, great views, lots of walking. The centre is well catered towards tourism, Visitrs centre, fish+chips, cafe, wine bar, gift shop, free loo's. All in one place and looked fairly new.

Left 16:45, hit the A272 and again, no traffic, just couldn't believe my luck again! The sun was warming my back and lighting up the Oilseed rape and the moss on the trees was glowing emerald in the low sun. The road was brilliant, the bike was brilliant. Got a bit emotional. Felt fucking fantastic!

Bloody love this country in days like these.

Parked up just before 20:00. So 3:15 and that included a fuel stop and a stop for a drink + snack.

From bank holiday hell, to bank holiday heaven. And all thanks to a great bike, some great roads and a lost Italian. Smile

Did just over 130 miles today riding to Cheddar Gorge and back Very Happy

Absolutely brilliant on the run up to the gorge and through it. I would recommend it to anyone who is considering going. Although, perhaps try it at a quieter time of the year as I got a little frustrated at times with the number of slow drivers.

https://i1346.photobucket.com/albums/p690/monteme0/GORGE_zps2a8f0ee3.jpg

Not the most impressive section of the gorge but it was the only picture I got.

There are also some really nice walking trails up on the cliffs if you turn left and walk along the beach or you can go to the right and walk up the very steep hill to Durdle Door which is pretty good too Thumbs Up (if your into walking that is).

You should of said you were going mate Razz Me and WS4936 weren't that far at all from there at one point, we went over to Weston and back from Bristol.

Hows the road down there now I haven't been in almost a year, it was pot-holed and cracked to hell last time, kind of ruined part of it Shocked

Next time I'm going for a ride out I'll let you know Smile.

I don't recall the roads being too bad to be honest. Think I managed to get the foot pegs scraping for a fraction of a second too as I got caught out by a bend that was tighter than expected Thumbs Up

Sounds like its time to get a bike Wink 10x better

Plus you get the official membership card for being a member of the biker club from the DVLA, which makes people faint due to excessive admiration. Parts of this may be exageratted for dramatic purposes

Thanks mate, definitely going to go back at some point, but maybe stay for a few days. Too much to do in one day!

I didn't do the cliff trails to the left, but did have a coronary walking up the right hand side Smile

Lots of tasty bikes at Hartside yesterday, spotted a BMW S1000RR HP4 and a Panigale which had the loudest exhaust I've ever heard.

You should get yourself along Kirkstone pass at the Lakes, then onto Wrynose and Hardnott pass for they are proper mental Thumbs Up

something like this https://goo.gl/maps/YDDaF

Hypermotard roads me think, hard work on a ZZR or even R1 ... need to sort a rack and tail bag first as will need to carry 5L. can fuel ... but soon. Thumbs Up

Aye, I saw plenty of big bikes, bet they were slipping the clutch in 1st the entire pass, it's far too tight and hilly to be any fun for them surely.

I'd love to explore the Lakes more but fuel is a big issue, only got around 85 miles of range which drops the harder you ride so not entirely predictable. Can get a bigger tank for my bike but massively expensive and ugly, might go the jerry can route too Razz Would up my range to about 140 miles.
