Thanks for the reply NI. I just read about charging systems & even though I don't really understand, I see what you mean.
I hadn't considered hiding a battery but I will see if there is a very small 6v one that I could squirrel away somewhere. I do need lights on the bike & I always use 'em even in daylight. You have made me think that if there was a method of doing away with a battery then manufacturers would have got rid in favour of a less weighty method.
If I use a total loss system just to get it through an MOT I could always dispense with it afterwards but would running lights without a battery damage anything like the windings on the stator?
