99 R1, picked it up yesterday.

My 33bhp restriction ended last year but insurance wanted £1k for anything with a bit of power, I did some quotes recently and for some reason I was getting stupidly cheap quotes, £260 TPFT.

The handling is so much better, the thing I notice most is how smooth the brakes are compared to my hyo, the hyo snatches horribly meaning I had no confidence in braking on the the corners if necessary. 100 feels like a comfortable cruising speed where as on the 250 I was hanging on for dear life at those speeds.

Going to 1000cc wasnt 'dangerous' at all, if anything I feel a lot more comfortable and safer not to mention the effortless overtaking which was a bit dodgy on the 250 Thumbs Up

Nice. Not a bike you want to be taking to its full potential on the road though.

One of my mates reckoned a thou sports bike was better for the road than a 600, torque is much more usable he said, can pull in any gear rather than having to change down and thrash a smaller engine. Obviously you can go OTT with the gas, and he said he was doing unintentional power wheelies, but once you're used to it he said it's much more predictable and easy to ride.

Sounds like it made sense to me. I've only ridden BMW G650XC and my 600 Hornet, no sports bike yet.

Isn't the Hyosung 125 & 250 faired?

Cheers Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Mr. Green

Chain was quite slack. My 250 was faired as it was the gtr, naked is just gt but it vibrated a lot, handling was reduced and the engine screamed, really didn't feel like it was happy at the higher speeds.

The throttle is yet to be fully opened and that's not to say I haven't given it some, it is an extremely lazy bike, I've found myself leaving it in the same gear for the entire journey a few times, it will let you crawl at the traffic lights and then do 100+ without changing and I've overtaken in gears and rev ranges which would make other bikes feel like a tank in terms of acceleration, every gear has the acceleration of 1st and all in it's a lot easier to ride than my last bike. I'm glad it hasnt got the excessive engine braking of the vtwin which forced me into the higher gears and I'm surprised how comfortable it is.

Definitely sort the chain, get it so its tip top. There is a few bikes I've liked over my biking time, high up in the list is my old 2001 R1.

Interested in your insurance also, mine was fairly low, had an R1, Varadero, monkey bike and NTV insured for £400 Thumbs Up

22, 4years NCB, almost 3 years full license, £260 fire & theft.

Monster sticker was removed as soon as I arrived home, that photo was taken when I went to go a view it.

The gearbox has gone on it already! I would like to do it myself but I've not got any time spare .. still deciding on that one, it might just be worth the £400 shop charge to get it back on the road.

Just seen you're other thread about the gearbox, that sucks.

Not sure if a swap would be easier/cheaper than a rebuild.

Another bike I was considering but decided a forth Yamaha in a row was a bit much Laughing nice bike though Thumbs Up just watch the first gear if it's like my 'cat.. Doesn't slip out under high revs but it does make an awful noise if you don't bang it into gear hard enough. Seems a common thing with the old Yamaha gear box's.

Looks all neat and well cared, probably little adjustments especially on chain would make it smooth again.

As posted in the workshop thread, it was only a tension spring - £150 fitted.

It's seen over a thousand miles since then, gearbox is a bit noisy but I feel that I got a lot of bike for my money as there were no other problems.
due to work I'm only able to ride once a fortnight but here's yesterdays ride before going a bit mental with adobe lightroom.

You went from a Hyosung to an R1 and the thing you noticed most is the brakes Shocked

Either R1's are slow or had a seriously quick Hyosung.

Nice looking bike though Thumbs Up
