This is just copied from another forum I use but thought it might interest some current or future DRZ owners that are on here too.
_______________________________________
I've been meaning to start one of these for ages Better late than never, I suppose. This is just to keep track of mods I do.
Here's a pic when I first got the bike (taken by the seller not me):
https://i.imgur.com/saIlvkf.jpg
2005 SM, absolutely mint condition, only 691 miles on the clocks when I picked it up. Came with the MRD, R&G tail tidy, 3x3 mod, snide zeta levers etc. but well taken care of, just never ridden as my latest MOT proves:
https://i.imgur.com/zYHYn8z.jpg
I'll start off by saying Ken/BMK has helped massively with the tricky stuff (spring, fcr, e-cams etc.) which I am very grateful for  I mostly did the tarty, easy stuff
First things first, I wanted to start with the important mods. Took the bike to Ken's and got the FCR installed along with flexjet. Made it feel like a totally different bike The FCR itself was included in the sale of the bike but not installed, it seemed to be in very good nick so I was chuffed with that.
https://i.imgur.com/SCoaFLj.jpg
Then next on the list was the spring & e-cams, which Ken did after I dropped the bike off.
https://i.imgur.com/ayGSMZN.jpg
Next I changed the rubbish standard bars and grips and added hand guards.
https://i.imgur.com/hVKBF5Y.jpg
https://i.imgur.com/hxXHcwO.jpg
I had ordered the wrong hand guard fittings though, but once again Ken to the rescue, he swapped with me since he doesn't use his
Also installed axle and bar-end sliders at some point.
After this I ordered some DRC pegs, which like the bars are 1000 times better than the stock item/s in every way.
https://i.imgur.com/wq6h02N.jpg
Also ordered in parts for the upcoming Brembo, including a set of radial callipers off an RSV 1000, SFQ bracket and a Goldspeed 320mm disc which got put aside for later.
At this point the stock tires were not only 9 years old but also very low on tread at around 1,500 miles. So I went the supercorsa route:
https://i.imgur.com/qnV8fUf.jpg
Absolutely love these tyres
Next was a problem I ran into when I was going to install a braided line on the rear.
https://i.imgur.com/n3czZ4y.jpg
Quite a common problem. No point in replacing with another one as it'll just fail again eventually - I think due to how close the res is to the exhaust. So instead I replaced it with a brand new Nissin M/C from a Honda CRF 450 (I didn't want to buy a raggy old one and have to rebuild it) and added a Venhill line later on:
https://i.imgur.com/TxR535R.jpg
https://i.imgur.com/oKEnYO1.jpg
Much better design and the braking is much more progressive now. It requires a bit of tweaking to fit, first the bottom hole on the bike needs to be filed out a bitto the left so it sits straight, just a few mm does the job. Then I had to remove the locating tab thing where the banjo bolts in otherwise the line would be sitting in the rear shock spring. Nothing major really. It was also quite the pain to bleed I think because of the smaller res capacity maybe, but a vaccum bleeder solves that issue.
Next something I had been looking out for for a while was a white rear fender:
https://i.imgur.com/9kKVOw7.png
Also swapped out the front mud guard for a white UFO one. The short Acerbis ones are crap in the rain.
Then the latest mod I've done is the Brembo calliper. Was putting this one off for months as I was sure I was going to mess it up Ended up being quite straight forward to do if you take your time. Went to take off the standard line and was greeted with this so probably quite over due new lines:
https://i.imgur.com/gM2UE0U.jpg
Ended up with this after much test fitting and sanding/rubbing the back of the calliper to clear the spokes:
https://i.imgur.com/FzYr3QW.jpg
Not great but it works so I don't mind. Will repaint it at some point in the future in brembo-ish gold as well as the rear calliper, copying off Ken again I know
https://i.imgur.com/xiBPO4I.jpg
https://i.imgur.com/Vxt0i5R.jpg
Goes without saying the brakes are shit hot now

With bleeding the back brake issue, if you buy one of those big syringes and fill it with fluid then just fill it that way, it will push the air out through the M/C but not completely, the beauty of using the syringe is you can use it to constantly fill and bleed the system removing the need for a 2nd party for help. ____________________ Haz ER-5, innit! |

Did try that with one I bought off ebay but it just kept slipping off and causing a mess. Recently got a cheap vaccum bleeder off ebay and it's a piece of cake now, no longer do I detest bleeding brakes ____________________ KTM 990 SMT & Suzuki DR-Z 400 SM |

Nah it's a hand pump sort of thing like this:
https://i.imgur.com/L1SXzku.jpg
I just tighten the bleed nipple when I notice the fluid getting low, then top up and open it again and so on until the pedal/lever is solid which happens in no time ____________________ KTM 990 SMT & Suzuki DR-Z 400 SM |

440 is for girls now, my mate has a 462 stroker DRZ
Do have a soft spot for my old 690, they are just such good looking bikes Prefer my DRZ though, much more reliable bike, cheaper and I like messing about with it whereas the 690 is nearly perfect from the factory, the most I did to mine was change the indicators I think ____________________ KTM 990 SMT & Suzuki DR-Z 400 SM |

Cool bike
I bought a DRZ new from cupar motorcycles back in 2007, it was my first big bike after passing my test on my little CG125 which I traded in for it.
Had great fun just riding and doing all the usual DRZ mods, put a full yoshi system on the exact same as the one you've just bought.

It's fine for about 50 miles, but the idea is you should be moving your arse about anyway in the twisties, just swapping from cheek to cheek It's crap basically, every SM I've tried is the same, this bike even came with an expensive gel seat which was equally as bad so I went back to the one it has now. ____________________ KTM 990 SMT & Suzuki DR-Z 400 SM |

Mega neglected this thread, going to take a while to remember the new mods but here goes, in no particular order.
White Roose hoses:
https://i.imgur.com/zz9KlLN.jpg
These were a twat to fit, filled and bled the system went to put plastics back on and nowt lined up, hoses were all slightly too long, so that was a fun day. Just chopped them down a little bit and worked out ok, just.
Zeta LED hand guard indicators, removed front indicators of course:
https://i.imgur.com/XEZTDeZ.jpg
Zeta hand guard side mounts, swing arm & fork guard stickers, passenger footpeg removal & rear wavy disc :
https://i.imgur.com/wR9hBuG.jpg
Rack was fitted as can be seen in some of the pics. Looks a bit crap but it is very handy so it's staying, plus it came with the bike and was brand new still in the packaging with instructions and all Also there in case I want to mount a jerry can on the back.
Decided the vdub car people can't be wrong so slammed my ride, innit blud:
https://i.imgur.com/KrC4BfY.jpg
Projection jack-up links were then fitted. They were a bit of a pain, but bike feels much nicer now. I'd say about the height of my old KTM 690 SMC more or less. Some of the settings were impossible to use but end of the day it was cheaper than a set length one. Many thanks to BMK as per usual
Case saver chain guard fitted:
https://i.imgur.com/pWt0XqU.jpg
Did this "mod" when I first got the bike, but thought I'd show a pic as I reckon it's the best placement for the ignition switch if you're trying to hide it away. Can also see it in an earlier pic of with the headlight shroud off. Have to remove the rubber around the barrel to make it fit (just tape it up instead) and simply bolt to the headlight mount.

Here's a quick video of the RS-2 also:

Used to have an lc4 690 smc, it's not as smooth as one of them by a long shot I'd say, but I can ride it all day happily. Not even bothered by the seat ____________________ KTM 990 SMT & Suzuki DR-Z 400 SM |
