Why does the karma system make such massive fuck ups? I was marking legitimate spam posts only for the karma system to revoke them.

Does that mean that it's pointless marking spam? Spammers are free to cover the forum in whatever shit they want as long as they do it fast enough that moderators don't sort it, as you can't mark multiple posts as spam?

It's quite ridiculous, that if the moderators can't be arsed to clean up spam posts, we can't mark multiple posts as spam.

Never seen it do that before, is it a new feature?

Best guess would be it's to stop people being targeted by one person, so if no one else marks that post as spam within a given time frame, it gets revoked if you've marked more than say 10 of the same person's posts as spam?

There are multiple users who had marked it as spam, lots have been revoked too.

So it's a case of if the moderators can't be arsed going through, self-moderation by the user group to prevent spam is flawed.

Stop giving negative Karma out all the time. Job done.

I agree. Clearly it's a bit screwed up if it's automatically revoking genuine spam. Thinking

Have to wait for one of the mods, or Kornel to roll along.

If you were systematically giving many posts Spam ratings, I think this is then highlighted that you are acting like a spam bot and ratings will be revoked.

Also, it may be that someone has asked for permission and the negative ratings have been taken away because of this. Idea

Well, clearly you were just jumping on the punishment bandwagon and didn't really believe that was spam. Folded arms

Auto revoke, multiple posts as spam, as the guy had made nearly 50 posts, spamming the same images over and over and over, without posting a single word.

I've already PM'ed G about it, waiting to hear back from him. He's already said he's going to delete the scumsack's crap and ban him.

Spam account has been nuked.

I'm pretty sure this will reset the karma system to where it was before. Or it might not. Who knows.

Looks like not. Revoking the revokes might fix it. Neutral

The revoked karma has disappeared but not restored the users karma.

Not a massive issue for mine in truth, but Mark_F had his Karma totally nuked by the revocations.

https://www.bikechatforums.com/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=86454

He can't even post, as the revokes karma banned him so that will still need fixing.

Up karma'd posts with ACTUAL ratings, that shouldn't get revoked as they are actually rated with legitimate +karmas Wink

I've been a tad busy the last couple of weeks, so not really had the time to look into stuff myself, but, for a start...

Thumbs Down This post is SPAM:

In no way did the posts marked as Spam meet the rating guide, I'd say, for the record.
It would seem 'the system works', in this case.

I don't tend to revoke positive ratings that are obviously being used to abuse the system (such as some of the positive ones Mark_F's post above received), but that doesn't mean I won't in some situations.
Also doesn't mean the system won't.

Let a moderator know if there's a user repeatedly post stuff you don't like - I had been notified at some point, but have been busy at work, so couldn't respond to messages/look into stuff that quickly (I've still got another 'situation' to look into on the list from another user at least a couple of weeks ago.)

For the record, if you don't like a lot of a user's post, it's much better to assign them as an enemy, than repeatedly seek out their posts to vote down. Even though, sadly, some people do use this system to abuse the system, no action has ever been taken in the past over that.
