For those that like to open up on French soil, the French plod will make you pay a very large on the spot deposit if you are caught. They are also interested in confiscating your licence and even your vehicle. It isn't just old wives tales. one from last week

Obviously, I don't stick religiously to the limits but do it in sensible places, we had stints of 130mph on the eurojollies but it was in suitable open spaces with a fairly low chance of plod hiding round the corner.
