This past year I've been participating in the matchams pit bike series, I managed to do five of the nine rounds, although one of those I had a big crash in the first race and didn't do the rest of the day. Race day is 2x15m warm ups, 3x10 lap heats and 1x12 lap final (the final is what counts for podium credits and trophies)

Out of those five rounds I picked up two third place trophies and won the class B championship (fastest fatty...!)

I'm 6'2" so probably not built for pit bikes but it's very enjoyable, and I'll be back next year. The bike needs a touch of work though.

Here's how it started the last round:

https://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y459/nark_square/84C8A9C7-55F9-4E72-AB3A-0B8447A5664A_zpsowmdu8ts.jpg

https://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y459/nark_square/82779E77-0783-43D6-B72E-33B798FF4F6D_zpssacsdd6y.jpg

And here's how it stands in the shed. I sort of abandoned it when I went to Africa. The handguards and front mudguard have been removed in this one.

https://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y459/nark_square/8A28B477-FEC3-4516-B5C1-1B4F65C00984_zpsc0fhufpf.jpg

The thing that's been bugging me all year has been my straight line speed, I'm good enough on the brakes and corner entry, but others seem to pull a bike length on me down the straights, even if I'm on the throttle before them. I noticed the baffles in my C90 exhaust were rattling all over the place, and on closer inspection, the outlet pipe smaller than others. Turns out when I put this pipe on it was off my C50LAC and appears to be different.

You can also see the rear tyre has had it, this was a supersoft MC31, in future I'll use a soft (as this was supposed to be - I got sent the wrong one and didn't check, I've a soft on the front)

I've also picked up a different header pipe, if you compare the two you can see the replacement is both a larger bore and free from welds which should help the gasflow.

https://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y459/nark_square/8371956B-BE25-4B79-ACF1-1EB204F886A3_zpsrmru4srk.jpg

https://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y459/nark_square/IMG_14501_zpse3502edf.jpg

After a quick clean up and chopping both the silencer and the header to the correct length, I got my old man to weld them together.

I'm hoping this will help me down the straights!

Next job is fitting my replacement kickstart.

Old:

New:

https://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y459/nark_square/IMG_14411_zps9d460441.jpg

You can probably also see how fucked my footpegs are. I'm going to try and figure out how to raise them to give me more ground clearance.

Bodywork off, new exhaust not yet on:

More to come...

Looks fun, how much does it cost to take part?

£40 per race day, £25 1/2 day practice or £40 for a whole day. Thumbs Up

This is what it does to your boots!

https://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y459/nark_square/IMG_14751_zps04934542.jpg

Oil line weeping, again. Will replace and get spares.

https://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y459/nark_square/IMG_14821_zpsf01cd187.jpg

Stud snapped off in rear spindle, both sides.

https://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y459/nark_square/IMG_14801_zpsba203ea2.jpg

And think I'll need a better catch tank rather than the yoghurt pot that's on it at the moment Laughing

https://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y459/nark_square/IMG_14861_zpse4f06c37.jpg

On the flip side, exhaust cleaned up and fitted well, beefcake.

https://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y459/nark_square/IMG_14811_zps268dbec0.jpg

And new air filter fitted.

https://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y459/nark_square/IMG_14841_zps760f8069.jpg

Sneak peak of new colours, with skateboard wheels fitted as bobbins to the front axle.

Use of skateboard wheels is ingenious.

Following with interest.

I will be getting my first taste of pitbike supermoto on Monday night (thanks G), then hopefully doing matchams next year if all goes to plan.

Nice one, I'll try do all next year, depends on a few things though.

Anywho, bodywork on.

https://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y459/nark_square/IMG_14621_zpse5d62914.jpg

And oil changed too.

Still to do:
Rear tyre / remove studs / fit bobbins.
Handguards.
Valve clearances.
Catch tanks.
Seat foam rear mudguard.
Footpegs - raising if possible and bobbins.
Possibly fork oil change.
Brake pads on the front.

Nice work dude!

I know matchams are very tight on their regulations.
Not sure if they've started allowing Z40 cams to be fitted like some of the other race series'.

Sneaky little mod is to fit the inlet valve out of a 125 big-valve engine, into the exhaust port of the 140.
Impossible to tell, but improves power quite noticeably. Twisted Evil
Valve goes straight in, but clearance is next to nothing to set-up is vital.

If you wanna get really nitty about it. Get the bike over to OORacing and have it set up on their dyno.

Ah, not really interested in cheating to be honest, just want to be on a level playing field like everyone else!

Z40 cam is allowed and I have fitted along with springs, didn't make a lot of difference though.
