Picked up this little beast a few months ago.

Got her for a steal.

I will rebuild it and use it as a commuter/fun bike.

Sitting at 55k miles, and needing a lot of love...
Not been used for two years.
If anyone has any helpful info on this please share! Wink

Nice project!

Keep us updated with your plans and progress ok!

I've always liked the CBthou, and thought of it as a good looking bike with a lot of upgrade potential. I'm not sure if I should be looking for one of these instead of a V-max, but as I've not ridden a Max yet, everything is saying go for a V4 black beast.

What are your plans for the CB if you don't mind me asking?

After my initial look over it she needed new rear shocks (both split and pitted).
An exhaust system (very rare to find!)
and the front forks were pitted/split seals.

Also it didn't run, needed the petcock refitting and generally tidied up.

I ordered a delkevic system off a cbr1000f. Apparently these fit (balls do they.... Definitely not a straight fit it hits the frame).

So currently waiting on some spacers to be made from a fella off here!
I'll then weld and refit the system. Happy days.

For a mockup, here you go.

Look at that! Twin system! Cost me £420 Shocked

On the plus side, I got the sod running and took it for a quick spin, seems well nice. Very smooth. Just need to carry on and get this baby done.

I took a look at the airbox and modified the carb rubbers so they actually fitted....

Then I had a look at that awful seat cover... Fitted an ebay bodge for a tenner. You will also see the hagon shocks fitted!

Also in the meantime I got myself this bad boy to help out with the repairs,

sweet, i loved mine,
chucked a set of cbr cams in it which really made a big difference,
dont even bother trying to fit cbr carbs though,

i had babyface exhaust system fitted, (came on the bike when imported from japan)
the bike handled way better than my bandit 12 despite having twin shocks,

keep it up,

So you all know, cbr1000f exhausts were rumored to fit. Definitely only half fit. Laughing I can only assume the cbr runs a cradle frame (supported from behind) whereas the cb is a fully supported underneath the engine.

The pipes hit the frame no matter what. So I am forced to extend the headers, pluck out the exhaust bolts and fit extended ones. Not too much of an issue but a lot of aggro from a system I just threw £420 at. Laughing

Still, twin silencers, bro' Laughing Laughing Laughing

Pipe down you dumb fuck, why are CBF pipes any more likely to fit?
Because a friend fitted them to his about 2 years ago Rolling Eyes

And after a few very generous offers, Spikenipple managed to make these without fuss and sent them my way! Cheers mate enjoy the beer tokens! Quality parts.

so without further ado I decided to weld them up.... Not brilliantly I might add! Laughing Laughing Wink

Inside and outside welding done. On all flanges. Sorted.

https://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j250/matttess/20141115_112523_zps114fb8cb.jpg

I double nutted the studs in the engine head, and started removing the exhaust studs. I got a couple out, and as usual, it pissed down with rain so I swiftly bailed. Laughing On the bright side, the downpipes match up beautifully Cool

Oh found this video of me on my phone, uploaded for the lols.

to be fair I finished this ages ago Laughing

I sanded the welds down on the exhaust headers so they are much tidier, fitted the system, got all the bits and pieces done (carb leak, sticky throttle etc).

MOT'd it and shes all on the road.

I took her to the isle of wight the other day.

the only thing i need to sort is the chain, it tends to drag quite low to the exhaust system which concerns me. I'm planning on building a chain slider for it today.

cheers.
