My last 2t pit was built with a TZR125 (same as DTR125) engine.
I've got friends who have grafted NSR125 engines into pits, and also seen a Suzuki RG125 engine put into one as well.

Just looking for an engine for swap purposes eg if I got a 4stroke 125. Must say that bike looks amazingly clean Very Happy

So thanks to Pete, I managed to pick up this mini lathe from an engineer in Sevenoaks.
Should be able to drill my own axles now, make up the required axle and engine spacers etc.

Once it's running and reliable, I will be riding it at Whilton, Stretton, Caxton and Red Lodge on a monthly/6-weekly basis I hope. I miss the days of doing 12-15 track days a year! Sad

First stop on this beast will be Whilton Mill though. Nice big straight will let is stretch it's legs and pull in some 70mph action I hope.

You've been gone to long Ben Caxton shut a long time ago would be good to see you back at track side 👍

So tonight, I kinda did this:

The underside of the chain steps up, it doesn't roll on a roller or anything, that's it fouling on the brace bar which runs across both frame rails.
I would make a roller to bolt on just higher to allow it to miss, but the chain is so bloody big, it'd just foul on the underside of the swing arm constantly.
So the plan is to cut out the brace bar, and just move it down so it sits just below the chain instead.

Master cylinder and clutch lever are on their way. Gone for some nice fake Pazzo style units. Laughing
Got some hand guards for it. I need to chop the rad mounts back off the frame, and fit them higher so the rads sit up in the shrouds properly, and away from the spanny.

Looking at a KX65 end can. Not sure if it'll be a big enough bore size though. It will just fit nicely with the frame as it's got a KLX110 subframe on it (same as a KX65 basically).

More updates to come. Very Happy

Making my day seeing Rotax updates! Thumbs Up

Even the chain is all trick and shiny gold, though it's nothing less than this beast deserves. Once you chop out and move the frame brace bar it should work a treat too!

It does not look too far away from being ready to sing now! I secretly hope it smokes the hell out of your new race bike pit, though with the fancy trick 4v engine you have in that and it being a smaller probably a fair bit lighter bike too, I'm slightly worried too in case it's not as mental lol!

I think the Daytona 150 will have the faster get away. It's insanely quick from a standing start up to about 40mph.

But lets face it, the early RS125s, and the AF1s were rocket ships once they got moving. My old TZR pit bike used to hold it's own against the RS125 up to about 50mph, but once they were into 3rd gear, they just left me standing.

I can not wait. Razz

After a lot of consideration, I decided I wanted to re-frame the bike.

The after taking some measurements, I have very little option in regards to a frame change due to a few reasons.

The engine shares the rear mounting, with the swing arm mounting.
Most smaller bikes / Pit bikes don't do this, meaning the engine / sprocket will be way off the mark, and it will look like one of these slap-dash converted pit bikes where the chain is kinked almost double over the leading edge of the swing arm, gradually chewing it's way through it.

Then there is the fact it's fucking right hand drive.
No frame seems to give the clearance on the right hand side like my Malagutti one does.

And finally... The Malagutti frame, is road registered on a 56 plate.
I'm not gonna get that out of a pit bike, or a KX65 frame. Laughing

So I've decided against it.

I really did want to convert it into a Stomp KZR frame, as they run on KLX110 style plastics (Same as what I've got), and they are like a steel perimeter set up, giving room for an upright engine.

BUT, the engine is physically too wide to fit between the rear frame rails. Chain wont go through the gap between frame and gearbox housing. Booo!

Tonight, I have removed the front hugger/fender, and drilled the bottom yoke to accept a CRF50 fender.

I've got 3 front fenders. CRF50, CRF70, and a KLX110.
The 70 and 110 fenders look stupidly too big, And the CRF50 fender looks a little small.
BUT, I can live with that. Thumbs Up

I've won a nice pair of Aprilia RSV rear-sets to go on. They should be here next few days.
I've cut the rad mounts back off.
I'm in two minds weather to stick an RS125 rad on (big single rad), as that is the fitment this frame was originally made to take.
The twin MX-style rads, although they look ace, just do not fit anywhere nicely. They either foul the frame rails, or sit too close to the yokes and exhaust. Sad

More updates to come.

The CRF high level mudguard looks spot on IMO! Thumbs Up

I like the way this bike looks with the Malaguti perimeter frame. It must give you more room the the motor and ancillaries than a pit style frame does too!

The plastics it has and the perimeter frame make it look like a more compact small wheel KDX125 I reckon, and I think it's a cooler look than many pit bikes too and different!

If it needs twin rads, If you go with the enduro set up, I guess the LHS one will be in the way of the pipe or vice versa. Would a single rad under the headstock tuck in better and give you enough clearance for the forks and steering lock though?

Aprilia RSV Rear-sets arrived. Fitted them up. Dont like them, they are too far back.
Bought some YZF450 foot peg mounts to weld/bolt directly to the frame, and fit the pegs to them instead, to bring them forward about 6".

Fake pazzo levers arrived, fitted up. Front brake bled up. 240mm R1 disc is insanely bitey! Looking forward to riding it.

Few odds and sods to do, going to get a rad / rads mounted at some point, get some water in it, and give the engine a try, see if it starts and runs.

It's a 30bhp+ pit bike.
A not so pretty brake hose is the least of my worries.
Everything is very temp at the moment as it's all coming apart again for the frame to be powder coated. Just need to know everything is welded/bolted where it needs to be before I go and have it painted.
I can iron out all the little imperfections on it's final build up.

Wee bit of an update.

Fitted some threaded inserts into the bars, and put some bobbins (Skate board wheels) on the bars.
Fancied wrap arounds like my track bike, but they dont suit the Fat bars, especially with the Pazzo style levers.

Drilled my frame for the MX foot peg hangers (Bolted up for now). Need them welding on.
Foot pegs fitted. Not sure im going to keep the pegs that are on there. I would like some nice chunky Moto-X pegs instead. The small ally ones are a bit feeble for it.

Levers fitted both sides now. Clutch feels really nice. Hopefully it's got a good bite on it.

Going to get a shorter rear shock, with less sag.
Current one makes it stand up on the arse end like a street fighter, then as soon as I sit on it, the thing looks like a fucking bobber.

Need to get an RS125 Rad still. Dont want the MX rads, they dont fit the frame quite right.

Then I've got the joyful job of trying to get it started.

And the question is. To run a battery, or not to run a battery.
It's not got a kick start. So gonna be electric start, or bump start.

Rear caliper fitted, and Left-hand master cylinder.
Cant get a good lever on it though, so think it's going to want reverse bleeding.

Rad Mocked up. Want it slightly higher, and more upright. Will make some brackets up for it next week.

Got a KX125 end can on the way, and some other odds and sods.

And she's stripped down. Frame off to powder coaters next week.

Looks the nuts and sounds better tbh! Thumbs Up

Can't wait to see it during the final build. And I'm hoping it's going to out animal the trick race bike pit too. Though I reckon the angry 4v beast will be easier to ride fast maybe?

Straight linew power (once it's on band) the rotax will destroy the Daytona.
But around any small circuit the Aprilia will be about as useful as a Bacon Roll at a Bar mitzva. MinI pit is beast!

Tonight I had a play around with the link pipe for my exhaust.
It's a length of 25mm OD stainless tube, 1.5mm wall thickness.
I've flared one end of it, taken the end cap off the exhaust, slid it down through the hole, and then bolted the exhaust back together.
So the stainless pipe is now sandwiched in the end of the end can, just between the end cap, and the perforated tube. Nice and secure. And weld-free, so I can take it apart if needs be.

I now need to make about a 45 degree bend in the pipe, possibly a second acute bend further down to clear the subframe.
I've bought one of them pipe bending springs to stop it kinking.

Once I get the frame back, I'm gonna have a play with the Oxy/Acc and try to make some bends in this pipe to get it to line up with the stinger on the Spanny.

My next question is: The Stinger is also 25mm. So the link pipe wont sleeve onto the stinger or anything.

Can I use a piece of 25mm ID Silicone pipe to join the two ends together? Like on early MX bikes.
Is silicone up to the job of handling the heat of exhaust pipes?

Made up a steel sleeve tonight to go inside the rear engine mount, and drop it from 14mm to 10mm, as the frame and swing arm I have run 10mm pivot bolt.
Re-spaced the swing arm too, as it was central with the engine before, and gave very tight chain clearance.

There is a 5mm gap in the front engine mounts on the frame too, so i will spacer the whole engine across by that extra amount to keep it sitting straight in the frame.
The swing arm still sits central in the frame, just moving the engine over to the left as far as possible.

Okay, so a little trail of thought more than anything....

My swing arm, is a bit too short.
Although it's pure billet porn/epicness.... It's not long or wide enough for the 130 section rear tyre I'm running.

I thought about swing arm extensions. Which will prove to be very pricey.
And then it dawned on me....
Why not use an actual RS125 swing arm. Laughing

It'll mate up with the rear mount on the engine perfectly.
Sprockets will line up no problem.
It's designed for a right hand chain/left hand brake system, so I can run the RS125 rear caliper too. Thumbs Up

AND... It's got a nice, big flat mounting area to bolt a shock bottom-mount.
Which will pull the shock angle more up like an early A-Frame pit bike set up. Giving me a wide choice of shock absorbers, with lighter 250/300lb springs, rather than having to find a 305mm shock with a 1000lb spring for my current swing arm.

The only issue is the rear wheel on an RS125 runs 20mm bearings, and my wheels are 12mm bearings I'm gonna need some custom reducers making up.

I also had a little poke around with bits of the bike while waiting for the frame to come back.

Made up a 2t tank. Costing me just under 12 quid.
I looked at one on OORacing, but they are like 70odd quid on there!
This one holds 500ml too.

I played around with the forks too.
Replaced the rubber hose from the res to the MC, with some proper silicone hose as the rubber hose was sweating brake fluid through it. Confused
