Check the frame is legit, then this - much better value for money https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kawasaki-ZX6R-636-Ninja-Track-Race-Bike-/291402940084?pt=UK_Motorcycles&hash=item43d8f7feb4 .

What don't you rate about the zx7r?

I've seen the zx6r you posted but was definitely concerned about the frame. He has no proof of anything, just speculation of where it came from. Bit worrying :/

Heavy, slow turning, engine lacks sparkle, physically big.

If it WAS a dodgy bike, less than £75 would make it 'legit' - www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171712163535- so if the paintwork looks genuine and original, I doubt someone would have gone to the effort to repaint the frame with no numbers when they could have just got a frame with numbers and v5.
A 'tatty' one sold for £20 at auction with v5.

That sums it up really. Physically much harder work throwing a 7R round a track than a 6R, and you are gaining less than 10hp on a bike that is 40kg heavier. Needs +2 on the rear sprocket to help it get up and out of the corners.

But, I liked the size and stability of the 7R, plus the front end had more feel and feedback than my '08 ZX6R.

I've read the 7r has an amazing front end and the feel is spot on but the weight does concern me. Owners suggest sprocket changes improve things without losing too much top end. Think I'd prefer the nimbleness of the 6r. A lower price has been negotiated for the 7 so I'm still considering it

ZX7R wasn't a decent track bike when it was new! and certainly doesn't come close to any modern (ish) Zx6r or zx10r.

Forget the ZX7R unless you actually want to have one or are thinking of pre injection racing ect.

Zx6r b1h onwards is the way to go Kawasaki wise. Any variant of the r6 will be a decent track bike. Some people sware by CBR600's are various vintage but I'd want something new enough to usd forks.

Thumbs Up

Have you actually owned a ZX7R and a ZX6R and had them both on track?

Just asking because it's hard for you to make a informed comment unless you have.

Ridden both on track.....I think you'll go a long way to find anyone who seriously says the zx7r is better than a modern zx6r.

sometimes I don't think people grasp the fact that trackdays are pretty serious in terms of bike, I can't quite understand why you would want to buy a cheap bike 1k or less to go twice as fast as what you normally do on the road, more dangerous buying a cheap bike than doing it on Your road bike I think personally, bikes and cars are cheap for a reason and not always a worth the risk.

IMHO not saying every cheap bike is a dog but think about it and just have fun

Good point well made jon23, I think most of us having been trying to get a similar point across too but the OP has his own ideas which is fine!

Saying that my first track bike was 1200 quid and basically a good bike, I then spent about 450 quid getting bits sorted which included having the brakes overhauled. Oh and then I dropped another 100 quid on a good set of race scrubs.
It's not a cheap game!

My second track bike was 4 grand and lasted one track day! So I can understand people not wanting to get too heavily involved cash wise.

I'm now using my 3k road bike which is basically your point.

Thumbs Up

If you want to ride for fun.... Not to win....

Why not look at the massive array of GSXR600's for sale?
SRAD or K1?

There's been hundreds of thousands sold so always a ready supply of 2nd hand parts too!

To win, you'll need to be one of the best riders on one of the best bikes, so unless you have the time and money I'd go cheap!

Re old bikes being less safe... I'd say so long as the bearings, chain, brakes are all checked (basically mot'd) then I don't see why not.

You've gotta be rich to watch a new sports bike tumble down a track and shrug it off.

Just thought I'd update this thread with what has progressed...

Managed to pick up a gsxr 600 k2 about a month ago for £1100, spare tank, multiple fairings and a big bag of spares. Bike looked in great shape, engine sounded and pulled nice, supercorsa tyres that had only done one day, chain and sprockets all good and suspension although standard worked as it should.
Then followed a weekend working on it, noticed the pads were low so changed them and bled the system, awesome now! Dropped the oil for peace of mind even though ad said serviced after every other trackday, turns out I should have had more faith as it was golden lol. Glad I done it though. That was about it and she was ready to ride, oh except an £8 hose that had a slight leak.

So we booked our first ride at rockingham and she performed brilliantly, didn't skip a beat and held her own all day! Loved every bit of it once the first session was done with lol. Already booked in for another! Oh there was one fault, slight leak on the fork seal so that's getting done this week.

By no means were we the fastest out there but we certainly weren't the slowest and we had a ridiculously good day!
Overall I can't complain one bit and I'm glad I persisted with finding what I wanted.
So for anyone reading this in the same boat, it can be done Smile just be patient.
