Was looking for a bike to fix up whilst im bored, fazer is done on all small parts all except the polishing of the swingarm and forks but waiting on polishing pads...

found an rxs close to me went to look and it wasn't looking too pretty..

apparently "bored out to 110cc"

parts missing and bits of rust, guy said it was running but he painted the tank and it didnt work after so he ordered a new battery but still a no go.

offered £100 less ended up getting it for under £250, can't go wrong.
came with the side panels but werent on the bike at the time.

Pushed it 2 miles home with the gf taking it in turns (flat front tyre was a bitch)

had a look over it and the positive was connected to the frame
charged battery stuck it back on we had power!!
Indicators don't work properly, left works doesnt flash very dim, right is a no go but right indicator light on dash stays dimly lit. horn is quieter than a moths fart..

next is the engine, grabbed some fuel from my fazer, keys in ignition on and 1 swift kick it fired into life!!

no hesitation no problems ran fine smoked fine!

to do list:

Repaint the god awful tank! its like someone primered it with the thickest possible primer and didn't sand it then painted over the top.

Fix electrics

fix front tyre (puncture or flat)

put side casings back on.

much polish.

fit bolts where they belong.

today i did take a better look over it...

12v bulb taped into headlight..

wiring loom had been cut then rejoined.

flash relay needs replacing

1 stud on seat has snapped off but other than that seat is good.

needs speedo cable and tacho cable.

That's a good price for a RXS these days

There is a 12Volt mod for RXS's Has yours been converted? It might explain the 12Volt bulb, weak horn and dodgy indicators...

today i did take the carb off, gave it a clean, much gunk and dirt inside then i tackled the outside because why not.

will be doing this with moderate interest, my other half is showing more interest than me but muggins is doing all the work.

need to find out if i can get the seat bolt out at its snapped and not enough thread to get a nut on the end, the bolts go through the rack and frame holding the seat on, have 1 thats fine but id rather have 2.

May get a sidestand if i find one cheap enough but has centre stand for now.

need to fathom out this electrical problem, im sure its just the flash relay thats borked, indicators are weak and barely visible unless youre giving it some revs and even then its hardly bright.

carbs all cleaned, seat hamerited underneath.

Sanded most of the tank to a smooth finish, i may just paint over the top of whats on it now providing it doesn't react on a test surface.

took front wheel off to find the adjuster for the rear brake had snapped -.-

may have enough thread and adjustment on the lever.


clutch seems a bit dry and seems to have tons of slack even at full adjustment but whel i pull the clutch cable out from the side casing and pull the lever its stiff as hell it engages but only just i can feel it trying to turn the wheel still and finding neutral whilst its running is impossible

so i attacked the clutch, it sounded insanely dry i couldnt get neutral and i had no idea when the oil had been done so oil change might help...

Took sump bolt out and i thought id accidentally cut the fuel pipe...

out came gushing 2% oil 98% petrol and even then there was under 100ml !!

filled it up with oil according to the manual and run it for 15 mins, will do it again a few more times then drop the oil and see how it goes...

im guessing itll probs be full of fuel again if so then a new job to tackle!!

on the plus side i can find neutral 8/10 times.

My 20 year old RXS was in a bit better condition when I got it but still requires a little bit of work.

My back brake pedal is a little too close to the footpeg (similar to yours), replacement rear left shock needed and my front brake adjuster needs adjusting

Good bike though, I'm hoping to fix up those last bits, get an MOT and sell during the summer for a bit of cash for profit. Bought for £300 in May 2014.

head off.. turns out its +2mm oversize

downside is i could only get 2 of the 4 cylinder nuts off...

new spanner ordered to try again.
