Just brought this old thumper. import from SA, so I need to register it then think about what to do with it. been thinking along the lines of retro supermoto,CBR wheels etc, or maybe the Baja look. I'm no rivett counter, so originality isn't top of my list. I'm not expecting arm ripping power out of a 33 year old bike, so the engine will remain stock, with probably a pipe for the sounds.
going to ride it in the summer, then tear it down over the winter and make it shiny
Cheers

I know what I would do with that, and it wouldn't be a supermoto.

Very cool machine, I want to get an 80's enduro tool, maybe an IT200. Good luck with the build! ____________________ Current:1991 Honda MT50 (Soon to be a H100/MTX/MT5 hybrid), 1976 Honda Cub C70, 2005 Honda Varadero 125, 1993 Yamaha TTR250 Open Enduro , 2010 Road Legal Stomp YX140, 1994 Honda CRM 250 MK III, 1999 Cagiva Mito 125, 1992 Honda CB400 Super Four, Stomp T4 230, 1984 Honda H100s, 2009 Sym XS125K

I have to agree! The XR500 is quite minimalist as it is, and a nice clean re-build to vintage enduro spec would be my choice by far too!
It wouldn't look terrible as a retro motard, but the XR is like bikes such as the Yam IT465/490 or Suzuki SP/PE etc, they all look better in off road style trim.
I like the bigger Honda XL's and XR's. The image of a dude on an XL600R wiping the floor with B-class rider's of Gas Gas, and Beta modern machinery at a local club trial has never left me. If I could clean 2/3 of most intermediate muddy trials sections on the XL, I'd feel like a fucking hero! |

Cool bike How did you come to find that?
First bike after passing my test was a 1989 XR250R, wish I'd never got rid of that thing!
Would definitely be doing a standard rebuild on that personally but good luck with it whatever you decide to do ____________________ Current Bikes / Projects: 1999 Rieju RS1 50
