Bikes in for its first service tomorrow, supposed to be 600 miles. The mileage counter I was looking at was the trip mileage instead of the over all mileage so I've gone over by ~100 miles. Only just noticed now.

Will they not be arsed, or have I killed one kitten too many?

That's it, invalid warranty, bike only worth 5 ponds now.

Guessing they won't be arsed then?

I'm suprised to learn a 600 mile service on a new, modern motorcycle is still a thing.

I hope your first service is complimentary.
Not uncommon for garages to charge £120 for the first oil change.

Edit: And they will tell you that you will invalidate the warranty by taking it elsewhere or, heaven forbid, doing it yourself.

60ish quid it is, so not too bad. Have thought about doing it myself after this one but as soon as I pick up a spanner everything within a 5 ft radius spontaneously combusts

I think it's the norm. It certainly has been on my two and others that I've come across.

OP: You should be absolutely fine. All the garage will (should) do is change the oil and give it a quick look over. Thumbs Up

You'll be ok. The GPS chip in the bikes ECU is usually set to self destruct at 602 miles. Take it in for the apprentice to do an oil and filter change, fork out £100 so you don't invalidate your warranty when it goes pop later and everything will be ok.

Ask them which oil they would recommend, do it yourself.

Given cars have long since got shot of that 1st service.

But I guess as bikes are part built at dealer's. It's as much as safety check, as a lets rip off the punters with a charge that is not needed Twisted Evil

what ever you do

don't crash

insurance will take the cost of the service off what they give you and a bit more as its not got a full history

mine was a week over due when I wrote it off and was booked in for following week as I was working shifts and couldn't drop it in at half five in the morning and get to work for six

I've never known an insurance company check the service history before considering the pay out on a claim. But somehow it doesn't surprise me Rolling Eyes

Some of them are even specifying valve clearance checks, to the tune of several hundred £££. Still, that's a few Yuan saved in the factory.

Just to add, my first services have been free. These were Yamaha bikes though, so don't know if other makes do the same. The first one was a used bike also.

Surely you could wrangle a free service as part of the deal when buying?!

I think mine was on about 900 miles at the first service. Many, many kittens were lost.

Didn't get charged for it though.

not free, you've already paid for it in the OTR charges or from actually buying the bike in the first place

mine had done 1200 miles before I got the first service done, was mid summer and they were booked up for a month so just kept going, warranty has now expired, just another 12 months to pay
