Impressed Pepperami is impressed how you keep on getting in there and not letting the situation beat you Thumbs Up

10 out of 10

I saw a article on "teh net" about how people tune these little bikes ?
I think it was from Germany?
If I see the article , I will link it, but don't hold your breath as it was a while ago.

Any stop whatever you are doing and get out there and get that engine sorted, NOW! Smile

No point stressing about it, I bought the bike as a project, a way to learn some basic mechanics as i go.... She has certainly given me much to learn Rolling Eyes

Part of me is kind of glad the engine blew, as when I'd finished doing her up, it made me feel as though i needed another project... But pop she gave me another job to do for her instead Mr. Green

I'm still enjoying tinkering and as i say have learnt a lot in doing all the work myself... Thumbs Up

Your patience is better than mine, if she had of done that to me after all that work, I would have "fixed" it all with a 4lb lump hammer and recouped the scrap value Embarassed Laughing

Had a clean up of the cases on the transplant engine, as everything feels nice and tight on turn over, I'm going to just change over the top end off the old Engine, as the exhaust mountings differ on the A and S engine, re place the head gasket and pop it in to see if it fires...

I need oil and a few connectors to wire up the electrics, which I will go get tomorrow, then bolt it in.. Fingers crossed Thumbs Up

I found a scrapper on ebay, lucky for me he'd listed 2 h100s for breaking the day I started looking Wink 150 for the engine on buy it now, no carb or inlet as that was listed separately, I messaged him asking for a deal on the carb and he kindly threw it In free of charge..

Fitted the transplant engine in today, have had to use the top end from the A engine so the exhaust fits, also changed the chain cover from the A engine as the S has a slightly different cover...

It runs and idles... I almost fooked it though, with a true rookie mistake, I fired it up without any oil in Embarassed

The clutch isn't working so need to pull that apart to investigate, I have a complete spare from the old engine so just a case of swapping over maybe......

Good find, I think I paid £100 for H100S engine. I've got a carb off an 80's CR80, I think, for my 100, which bolts up to the inlet, I think it's a 28mm? I've got no idea, I've just been buying random stuff from 80's two stroke Hondas for years, I don't know what's what anymore.

Could you check to see if the cylinder head mounts are different between A and S? My idea is to stuff the 100 engine in my MT50, but I bought an S rather than the A, which is the engine everyone else uses. Embarassed Apparently the S requires more modification to get to fit on the top engine mounts. I may have to source a 100A top end if that is the case and do as you've done.

I'm going to need to use the original MT50 chain cover as well, to fit in my frame. When you say no oil, do you mean no two stroke or no gearbox? Like Pepperami said, your patience is better than mine, I did a mini resto' of my TTR and I did 300 km's and the gearbox went, I've just parked it up and left it since April.

The differences from the S and A are the head and barrel are different, in shape, the S is a more squared shape to the top end with the exhaust mount at a different angle, The A ans S are pretty much the same engine, just a few cosmetic differences as stated, all head mounting holes are the same as are the bottom end the only difference in the bottom end is that the S has an extra cable coming from it for a rev counter where the A didn't have a rev counter. Also the middle engine mount is shorter on the S so the spacer needed shimming to take up the extra gap.

The S replaced the A (1980-1983) in 1984, possible as already in production for the A, they just made very subtle changes, so using the surplus A left overs? The changes where more cosmetic giving a sleeker look, by squaring off the barrel and head, adding the rev counter and changing the chain cover for a more sleeker looking cover..

The A and S share the same gaskets..

It was the gearbox oil I forgot to fill before fire up Embarassed
Didn't run for too long before the penny dropped, so hopefully no damage done, I will drop the oil tomorrow and replace again to make sure no metal is present...

I just can't stop fettling with this little Honda, today I fitted performance reeds, cleaned and up jetted the carb to 130, fitted a cone filter, removed the air box, side panels and rolocated the battery. This is about where i imagined her when I set about this project, so feel she is finally now complete............. (Although I never did get to fit those rear sets. ummmm maybe i should hang on to her till i get round to that Laughing )

well almost, I have a new piston kit on order which i'll be popping in next weekend Very Happy

I fired her up and she sounds amazing with the filter, a little raz up the road and I could feel the difference Mr. Green

She is for sale, as i've just blown a wad on a 98 TZR import and only have space to park one bike Neutral But really tempted to stash her up somewhere and keep her Mr. Green

Anyway here are possibly some of the last updates on this beast.... It's been real fun and she makes me grin from ear to ear..

Not really she owes me around £900 off top my head probably more... Never get back the time spent, but I've had a fantastic time doing it Laughing

I am so tempted to just stash her away somewhere and keep her... But I have no space once my new bike arrives Evil or Very Mad

You made a fantastic job of this bike, and I think I speak for many when I first saw it and wasn't sure about it's desire in custom bobber spec.

But as a clean sorted café racer with a very smart paintjob it looks stunning! It's a shame you didn't get to try out the rear sets, they would have set it off very nicely (and I always wondered how you rode the thing in comfort without them). Oh and of course a spannie which I'm sure you were coming round to the idea of more and more! Wink

All is forgiven though with your choice of new project bike, and I'm sure much fun is going to be had with the Yam, even if it does lack the charm and basic simplicity of the air cooled café racer stunner you have now.

Good luck with sale and your new 100mph GP replica though! Thumbs Up

Thanks Stevo, a nice tribute to an old gal Wink I really have enjoyed giving back her dignity and will be truly sad to see her go......

But TZR...... Will soon make the pain subside. Mr. Green

I have a chap coming to look at her tomorrow evening, so have just spent a few hours having maybe my last tinker with her and have taken a little video for nostalgia Thumbs Up I will have a little ride to work and back on her tomorrow, just in case it's my last chance Embarassed
