I have recently got an rs125 2009, it worked fine for the first day however now it will not start. The lights and plug are working. When I press the ignition there is no sound, will this be the starter motor?

Between the button and the starter motor is a relay.
This relay takes a small power source (from the starter button) and bridges a connection between bigger, thicker cables for something power hungry like a starter motor.

If the battery is to flat to move the starter or the starter motor is broken then you will hear a clicking noise as the relay switch provides power but nothing else happens.
If there is a problem with the relay then there will be no noises at all.

First suggestion. Check the starter motor relay...
Find you/Buy/Beg/Borrow a multi meter and check that battery voltage is getting to the starter motor. If not, Inspect/dismantle/fix/replace the relay.

I will check the relay now. As for the sound, it either makes no sound at all or a very faint grinding noise(when the ignition is selected)

The relay seems in tact, all wires are secure. Haven't got a multimeter to check the power going to the starter motor, however the noise it makes sounds like the starter motor is moving but not at a fast enough rate, could this be due to low power from the battery or the motor itself being broken. Like I said all lights are working, will try and get a charger and multimeter to rule out problems with the battery, If so I will replace the starter motor.

Think I've diagnosed the problem as a low battery level, I noticed as I press the ignition the lights dim, I will order a charger.

Have you tried bump starting the bike?
Could get it going and go for a long ride to charge the battery.

One thing to note, why is the battery flat?
Has the bike been left for a long time/lights left on etc?
Regulator blown and not charging/cooking the battery?

Worth getting to the bottom of the problem before getting stranded somewhere after charging the battery at home and it being drained next time you go out or if putting a new battery on, cooking that one to.

Best regards

The bike has been left for a long time, as for the regulator I am not sure, I guess I'll see when I take out the bike after charging.

I checked the regulator, cannot seem to find it based on the images I used from Google to identify it, there is no black box with fins on it under the rear seat however there is a connector with nothing plugged into it?

Here's an image of my under seat section to see if you can identify the regulator and what that wire is for

If the bike has been left sat for a long time it is not unusual for the battery to slowly discharge over time so it would be a reasonable bet to leave the regulator off the table until you have got the bike started.

If this is the case, you may get away with just recharging the battery for now however if you are waiting for a charger you could always try bump start the bike to get it going and see how it gets on.

Being left out in the rain should not effect the bike much unless maybe the tank was left up or the seat left off?

Best of luck

When I said it had been sat I meant before I picked it up, I drove it 40 miles home, could that mean the regulator is not working.
