Yeah, I was enjoying the Greenlane life on my XR400R for a while but opportunities to use the bike were getting fewer and fewer with family and work commitments and I couldn't even use it for station commuting as its not the hardest of bikes to nick, kickstart and away!

So went searching the internet for something more useable, comfortable, good for the occasional commute...... And here it is on the trailer on its way home today!

Only had about 10 miles on it but it feels great. And I could honestly look at these things all day, one of my dream bikes and now I've got it, hurrah!

Nice bike, congratulations.

Similar to mine, though mine has much fashionable road rash graphics in abundance unfortunately, yours looks very clean.

No steering damper? be careful Smile

Aye no damper, are they seen as a must have on these? I'm on open to suggestions on improvements and light mods!

The chap I bought the bike of had my one fitted as he told me the bike was going to kill him without it. I think it is generally acknowledged as an advisable mod though I'm too scared to test it yet Smile I have an 1999 R6 without a damper and have found out myself that it could benefit with one. Changed underwear shortly after Smile

Paddy you were right about the R1 being quite friendly though, doesn't seem as ASBO as the R6 and nice bike for cruising around on. A tad uncomfortable and mine gets rather hot in traffic.

R1s are excellent bikes and I enjoy my 5JJ immensely.

Yours looks like a 4XV though,as far as I can tell, because of the squared off pillion seat,as against the 5JJ seat which is slightly pointed.

I do not have a steering damper on my bike and have never felt the need for one as I am quite used to the enduro bike being out of shape Wink Thumbs Up

As has been suggested, taking the R1 abroad for some sport/touring fun is something to look forward to Cool

Nice bikes, had a 99 a back when I was 20/21. Bit underwhelmed after hearing the hype but plenty capable and more than you'd ever need power wise. Paid about £1750 in 2009 for a slightly tatty one, sold it for over 2k Smile I remember seeing over 170 on the clocks a few times...

That looks very tidy though.

Preferred my b1h I had before it (and had another b1h after!).

K6 Gsxr 1000 stomps all over it though :p

Well as my cbr600rr could achieve a genuine 162... Wink

It can't overread when it stops. Gearing commander plus revs and limiter says it hit 307kmh.

same site gives a reading of 179.2 mph on my stock ( with de-cat) 2006 R1 5VY ..

so that would be a speedo reading of 191.1 mph .. Thinking
it is all very well imputing figures into a program but it is no substitute for a test run..

there is only one way available to ordinary people to record their speed accurately and that is with a GPS...

but any such file would be deleted.. Exclamation
