Yesterday I went out with some friends for a 300 mile round trip. Dartford to Crawley then on to Salisbury with a stop at a nice cafe for a posh panini and tea then on across Salisbury Plain via another tea break at Compton Abbas for cake and plane spotting before heading off and promptly losing one of our merry band and watching part of the Tough Mudder at Winchester. I left the house at 8.30 and got back for nearly 8. Feeling tired now!

Firstly, from Callington along the A390 and up onto Dartmoor. Went through Princetown, Two Bridges, and down via Ashburton.

https://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b550/nicknicklxs/DSCN1089_zpsd35e0jn0.jpg

Then took the A38 back into Cornwall, stopped at Looe again for a coffee. Then on to Charlestown. One of 3 masted ships there:

https://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b550/nicknicklxs/DSCN1100_zps33cmcjcc.jpg

Harbour entrance:

https://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b550/nicknicklxs/DSCN1106_zpsgp5dgtbx.jpg

Next up was St. Mawes castle:

https://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b550/nicknicklxs/DSCN1240_zpsqjkpxpyq.jpg

https://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b550/nicknicklxs/DSCN1232_zpscowth0au.jpg

Some of the many cannon there:

https://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b550/nicknicklxs/DSCN1211_zpslxqbtnav.jpg

The castle has about 4 different levels each of which has multiple gun emplacements - it would have been quite a formidable defence in it's day, especially in combination with Pendennis castle on the other side of the estuary:

https://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b550/nicknicklxs/DSCN1212_zpshdf66513.jpg

I tried the zoom on the new camera whilst there, and was quite pleased with the results. In the previous shot, you can see a lighthouse at the headland in the background; I thought this wasn't bad for a digi compact from the same distance:

https://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b550/nicknicklxs/DSCN1181_zpslipyezmj.jpg

On the way to the day's last destination, stopped briefly by Truro cathedral:

https://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b550/nicknicklxs/DSCN1242_zpsfh9w0lq2.jpg

https://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b550/nicknicklxs/DSCN1243_zpsczudvcw8.jpg

And then all the way down to Lizard Point, one of the very few parts of the Cornish coast I haven't visited before:

https://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b550/nicknicklxs/DSCN1244_zpss5ufqfku.jpg

https://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b550/nicknicklxs/DSCN1251_zpsoveqviux.jpg

Twas bloody windy down there! The road going down goes past RNAS Culdrose (the size of which surprised me), and is a cracking good little ride. Then A390 all the way back to Callington. Another beautiful day, good riding, good scenery, thoroughly enjoyed it Very Happy

Just a bit more of a taste of Cornwall today:

One more day tomorrow. Not sure where to head for - got a bit suckered in to doing all the tourist traps today, want to avoid that a bit tomorrow.

Do you mean the tourists, or the Cornish folks?

I don't quite feel like an Emmet myself as my mum's side of the family come from Cornwall, and I spent a lot of time there as a kid. Know much of it well.

Then Finchingfield:

Kitted up for a cold, foggy start, the fog had cleared by Oxford and I melted for the rest of the day. Enjoyed riding the old roads from The Beach, through Dunmow and up to Finchingfield though. Not so much the A/M40 and North Circular.

A damp Brands Hatch for my first full track day.

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v624/philr46/CHP_3797_11.20_zpswsoke8ry.jpg

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v624/philr46/CHP_8199_15.45_zpsl8is81bb.jpg

Shane Byrne was there too, he had a walk around the garages then gave two classroom talks - one about the lines at Brands (treat it as a dot to do with your bike in a straight line as much as possible), then one on body positioning. He seems a really nice, genuine guy and was happy to talk about BSB and his title fight as well.

Not too far (other side of Doncaster) and didn't get a Picture of the bike, I was more interested in the big noisy thing on the other side of the fence...
