Plans for a TT World Series have been put on hold by the Manx Government.
From Manx Radio:

Friday, October 23rd 2015 14:35

Promoter for T.T. to be appointed ahead of 2016 event

Plans to launch a T.T. World Series have been put on hold.

In January, the Isle of Man Government said the idea was viable after paying the London-based Sports Consultancy nearly £190,000 to explore its feasibility.

But the Department of Economic Development has decided to shelve those plans and concentrate on growing the T.T. and Classic T.T..

A partner to promote the home events will be appointed ahead of T.T. 2016.

DED Minister Laurence Skelly says further development of the T.T. and Classic T.T. will boost the Manx economy.

And he says there is a risk that a World Series at this time could take the focus away from the Isle of Man meetings:-

DED Minister Laurence Skelly says it's time to move commercial aspects such as licensing, broadcast rights and retail away from the Isle of Man Government:-

Surely they should do the American thing - and just hold a 'world series' on the IoM Razz.

What a waste of money, they should concentrate on getting a proper ferry service set up that isn't extortionate. Losing so many return fans because of the price

The ferry prices are a joke no two ways about it, could have many more visitors over for the tt and Manx if they were reasonable

The Steam Packet Company have a user agreement with the Manx Government which effectively gives them exclusive use of the link span in Douglas harbour. In return the Steam Packet have to guarantee a certain number of sailings to and from UK and Irish ports each year, including freight sailings 364 days of the year with only Christmas Day off. This arrangement may not be of much interest to a once a year TT visitor but it's of huge importance to us as it at least guarantees that there's going to be food in the shops all year round. Even though the boats are empty of passengers in the winter, under the user agreement they still have to run.
Like any other travel/transport company the Steam Packet prices are seasonal, high prices when the boats are full pay to run empty boats with freight only in the winter. The vast majority of TT visitors will only ever see the boats jam packed with passengers and bikes, try getting on the same boat in the middle of January and you could easily find that you're the only passenger onboard, and yet the boat still sails.
As for the number of TT/MGP visitors not returning? There are plenty more taking their places. Numbers are up year on year, Steam Packet fully booked, all hotels fully booked and all race entries over subscribed. Every year people complain about the cost of getting here and yet the visitor numbers keep on rising, kinda tells a story......

You can't get a B&B pretty much unless you've had the same room for years. We did homestay and it worked out really well but as said above, the place is full and whilst the ferry prices are a tad steep ( we took a bike and a car ) there is literally no other place like it, I don't begrudge them the profit.

I would reccomend everyone who likes racing or bikes goes at least once.

You can get a ferry to Ireland for at least 1/3rd of the price to watch racing which even the Manx people I e spoke to have said is better than the tt.. Don't get me wrong the tt has more appeal for its heritage that I understand but for out and out racing can't beat the Irish rounds (except the nw200)
