Hello,

I can't be arsed to do a full ride report but any questions feel free and I'm sure either me or Tatters will answer them.

Here's a summary - we went to Morocco to do some trail riding. We caught the ferry to Bilbao, rode through Spain, ferry over to Morocco, rode around a bit then did the reverse of the journey out but came back from Santander.

Anyway, a bit of my thoughts on Morocco to set the scene. Here is what I learned:

Culture

All Moroccan men must spend their entire day standing at the side of the road while their hag wives toil in a nearby field. The man sometimes must stand halfway up a deserted mountain road. If the man is in a town then standing at the side of the road is not allowed, he must cross the road.

The national sport is seeing how many people and/or animals it is possible to cram into a 1970's Mercedes or Citroen.

Driving

You must at all times overtake the vehicle in front. ALWAYS. Extra points are awarded for overtaking on a blind bend up a mountain, while doing no more than 0.5 mph faster than the overtake-ee, with 13 people/animals in the car and grinning madly, proudly exposing the last rotten tooth in your mouth.

Parking

You must park no more than 2 inches away from the nearest blue Yamaha motorcycle, even in a vast, empty area. When leaving you must roll forward and hit the Yamaha, again grinning like a cretin proudly exposing 'Gnasher'.

awesome off road technical trip. Now that is riding! Kind of stuff I love as well.

Those gravel roads look great. The kind of stuff a real biker loves to take on. Your bikes are quite loaded as well

Looks epic that mate, You guys encounter many other problems with the bikes or did they make it out unscathed?

Lovely country shame about the people, Most of the Arabs are pretty much sub-human scum they dump rubbish every where they can (plastic bags are the worst) and act like children always begging and hassling for money. This is my 3rd trip there so you get used to handling them, far better south away from the city's and towns down towards the Atlas mountains and Sahara where the Berbers live no hassle and quite reserved polite people.

Joes, XT suffered a broken clutch cable which is normal wear and tear which we replaced with a spare. My G650XC got a dented front rim after wacking into a boulder plus the starter motor bearings failed and the bendix gear started to stick but that did,nt stop the electric start from working.

No better way to open your eyes and learn about third world cultures than to live amongst them and understand why they are turd world and will always remain that way. If you go further south it gets even worse.

Yet the white middle class liberal ou who has only met grinning tame turd worlders in europe or in touriset service will insist 'we are all the same'.

Tatters took a few short videos:

First one is a very rocky section on MH5 - you can't quite see how bad it is from the vid. I was struggling with an about to snap clutch cable. It was getting some serious abuse as I was geared for the road, the cable snapped about 5 minutes later.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQ5bUszxVOg&feature=g-user-u

Second one, over the worst of the rocks on that trail, just picking our way along

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lOJhT6Y25A&feature=g-user-u

A typical scene if you stop in or near a village, not in this video but one time we had to do a U-turn in a tight area and we got properly mobbed

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AW7X9qZGcHg&feature=g-user-u

Those scenes when you arrive in small villages where they havent seen white people get really irritating. The kids come and want to touch you, everyone gathers to stare. I worked in northern ghana, near the border of burkina faso and Togo. We had a helicopter and dirt bikes to get around. Often i would be the first of the team and I got so irritated after a while, they just hang around hoping you put something down they can grab, and stare at you all the time, that i would teach them how to greet 'the next group in afrikaans: 'Jou Ma se Poes'. Your mother's C**t'.

Wish I could see the reaction when the main group arrived and got their 'greeting' Laughing

Cant blame you. I go nuts if I havent done one long off road trip a month.

Tar riding just doesnt do it.

I guess the only options on your grey wet island is green laning, but that is short distances and cannot really put together a long trip.

What about wales and the scottish highlands? Are there not long off road stretches and villages of the tar roads?

Nothing much in Scotland apart from a few fire roads and green lanes, Theres few good short routes in wales but nothing like what you get abroad. Offroading is shit in the UK Sad

I,m always up for doing more trips like this being lucky enough to have the time and funds to do so, in past years I,ve been across Scandinavia/Russia/Ukraine/Europe etc plus 4 trips to Morocco now but l hate going on my own its just not fun for me anymore.

You get like that for a while. Then you start to prefer riding alone better. If you are an adventure biker at heart, then solo always calls you back.

Im back in a solo phase. when people ask me to go riding I look for excuses. see you ther is fine, or how many people are going? if they say more than 3 then Im back to excuses

Bump.

I've realised the original picture links are outdated and BCF won't let me edit the first post as it's too old, so I've uploaded some of the pics to another host. Could a mod possible edit the original post to get rid of the broken links?
