Definitely easier to make it in the SAS Very Happy

Consider the numbers;

MotoGP: 19 riders
250cc: 25 riders
125cc: 36 riders

....whereas the number of SAS soldiers is reckoned to be around 2,000.

The other thing you forgot G is sponsorship. There's a reason that Spanish and Italian riders dominate international bike racing and it's not all down to skill.

Spanish and Italians have mechanisms in place to bring talent forward. Racing is second to football over there, rather than being a niche sport here.

Don't you have to be in the regular army for 5 years before you can apply for the SAS? Still easier than moto gp though.

Absolutely it's more popular, that's why riders attract much more personal sponsorship. The average race fan would be amazed to learn, for example, that probably 90% of the British Superbike field are not paid a wage by their team.

Not sure about the 5 year thing with the SAS, although I know you have to have a minimum period of enlistment left when you join. Nothing to stop you signing on again though. I kind of doubt you need 5 year's service though since there's TA SAS.

Taken from the interwebs:
Quote:
To be considered for selection, you must have at least three months experience in your regiment and at least three years left to serve. You must also be able to pass the Battle Fitness Test (BFT). You must file a Defense Council Instruction (DCI) which certifies that you are prepared to be put forward for arduous duties.

I'll put money on the reason behind Ron Dennis moving on from his post at Mclaren was purely to monitor your progress and offer you a multi-million pound deal to race in 2010.

You lucky sod!

I got a boner the other day... How would I go about getting into the porn industry? I know I can't just jump into the porn industry, but if you guy's can 'point' me in the right direction I can train, train, and train and hopefully achieve a long lasting massive erection.

I have never had sex with a woman but have furiously masturbated over loads of porn, and I think I have what it takes!

Please don't take the piss, I just need some advice and help...

Oh you meanies...let the kid dream his dreams...I mean look at my friend Westy, he's doing really well in BSB Supersport - even got a ride in WSB at Donington!!! And he has wanted to nothing but ride ever since he was a nipper. Cool

It can be done. However, it would help you enormously to be 'spotted' or have some friends in the 'right' places, or have someone in the family who is 'known' in racing circles, or have pots of money/sponsorship to get started. Thumbs Up

So that would make him 7 years old for the start of his racing career.

Which rather shows why a 16 year old or whatever generally can't just go out and race at world championship level Smile.

Defiantly true in most cases however Max Biaggi didn't start racing until he was 18 in 1989, was Italian 125 champion the same year and competed in 250 GP in 1991 a couple of years later.

However I think mid 30's is probably pushing it so I've put my racing dreams on hold.
