I really fancy doing a hill climb course myself, think I'd enjoy it.

Couldn't wait for summer anymore, so went for a blast on the Striple. I had 4 (count them...four) layers on underneath the leather jacket, thermals on underneath the jeans, and it was still feckin cold! Only the 2nd proper ride on it, and I'm starting to get it. Zapping up and down the gearbox to play that wonderful triple cylinder symphony Very Happy

Started out thinking i'd head for Solway AONB, but found myself in Keswick again Rolling Eyes Laughing Coffee and a warm up!

And then Newlands Valley way for a couple more snaps:

So good to get a ride in on dry roads, despite the chill Very Happy

Judging from your pics, you're not short of a few hills. Fit a set of knobblys and you're away Very Happy

Cool to hear you're hustling the Striple around. Handles like a 250 with a bit more poke Smile

Seeing your pics, I can't wait to get my suspension finished and get out!
Fingers crossed Friday maybe.

Filton. To drop off some cash for some herbal medicine. Took the bike because I went in the lunchtime busy spell.
Took the long way home as I was enjoying it more than I expected, I didn't really wear enough kit either and after
an hour of sodding about I was cold so went home. I only had summer gloves, kevlar jeans, boots and an all
season textile jacket on, was grateful for my Frank Thomas Windstopper tee shirt though, I'd have gone home sooner without that.

Went to lancaster to pick up the leather I won on the bay, went via the A65 and it's a belting road if a little speed camera-y sun went down just as I got there and holy Fuck balls did it get cold, decided to come back on the m6/m62 to just get it over with. Got home absolutely frozen but a good day regardless

Today, same run as last time, as I'm really having fun caning it past the traffic on the A595, then reeling from corner to corner down the 591 on this little hooligan bike. Buying the Striple was definitely the right thing to do - I haven't grinned so much since my RG500 Very Happy

I woke up today and thought "Fuck it, i'm going to Oxford today."

So the route there wasn't too interesting:

M25, A41, Little roads to Thame, A40 into Oxford.

Saw an awesome skatepark at Thame. I used to skate, so I was in a state of awe at what a good facility it was:

https://i1247.photobucket.com/albums/gg630/haroman6661/WP_20160226_003_zpsojv95gcm.jpg

Then I had a wander around all the usual bits in the center of Oxford:

https://i1247.photobucket.com/albums/gg630/haroman6661/WP_20160226_008_zps0nwuxg1w.jpg

https://i1247.photobucket.com/albums/gg630/haroman6661/WP_20160226_013_zpsgfs0p0yj.jpg

Then as I had a rag around the Chilterns on the way home, I ended up in West Wycombe where they have the Hellfire caves (they weren't open) and also St' Lawrence's Church and Mausoleum.

I took a nice smooth road on the way:

Entrance to the Hellfire caves:

Many kittens were killed throughout the day.

However I don't recall seeing any kitten related Morse episodes so perhaps it's not of a concern to him!

Today, did the Keswick/Borrowdale/Honister/Buttermere/Whinlatter/Keswick loop. I wrapped up so much, I was actually too warm at times. And found my old cold-killers inner gloves before going, which worked a treat inside Spada Enforcer gloves Thumbs Up

Borrowdale:

https://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b550/nicknicklxs/DSCN1682_zpsmv8iruwq.jpg

I think that's called Sergeant's Crag:

https://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b550/nicknicklxs/DSCN1687_zpspa1ruzyv.jpg

If you walk to the foot of it, then swing around it to the right, the path takes you up towards Angle Tarn and you can go on to Bow Fell from there. I did it the other way around a few years ago, starting at Langdale, and camping down below the tarn.

Heading up towards the Honister Pass:

https://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b550/nicknicklxs/DSCN1689_zpsuqhuhugt.jpg

And at the cafe car park:

https://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b550/nicknicklxs/DSCN1693_zpstp1ie7ur.jpg

Slate sculpture:

https://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b550/nicknicklxs/DSCN1705_zps1qqfjmqg.jpg

One of the things I love about the Lake District is you don't have to walk far above the roads and car parks to get some really stunning views:

https://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b550/nicknicklxs/DSCN1697_zpsllofwduo.jpg

Although I have definitely lost my hill-fitness!
Yeah, I know, I've posted this view before, but it's a favourite of mine Smile :

https://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b550/nicknicklxs/DSCN1713_zpslnluqc18.jpg

I had been a bit concerned about the possibility of ice on this loop, but in actual fact the roads were all dry, and very little run-off from the hills. Past Buttermere and you go past Crummock Water:

https://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b550/nicknicklxs/DSCN1731_zpszvphtmuu.jpg

There's a great walk I did above here. Starting with Whiteless Pike:

https://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b550/nicknicklxs/DSCN1739_zpsuqpex8fv.jpg

You carry on up onto, I think, Eel Crag, then turn to cross a broad, high plain, which takes you to the top of Grasmoor:

https://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b550/nicknicklxs/DSCN1729_zpsp3zzmscp.jpg

From which you get some really spectacular views all the way to Scafell on a good day, with ridge after ridge in between.
Also viewed from hereabouts, Red Pike:

https://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b550/nicknicklxs/DSCN1737_zpsw6buvntd.jpg

From the Buttermere side, a bit of a desperate scramble on very loose, steep scree towards the top!

A last shot looking back down the road before heading for the cafe and home:

Haha, splendid. Do you find it talks to you, begging to attack every corner like it was the last bend in the world and you're on the bike for the last time? Very Happy

I was out testing my new springs today, did 30 miles and it just wasn't quite right. Went home, swapped out the fork oil again, reduced the air gap and went out at 5pm. Had a absolute blast even though it was 4c.
I swear the first 40 minutes I was squealing like Sally Very Happy

Today, I started to think it's a little harshly sprung, but have heard (maybe here?) that the adjustment is a bit all or nothing? I really didn't want to start splashing out on suspension mods on this bike as well, so if the standard suspension can't be set up better, I'll probably just live with it. Better harsh than soft I suppose.

First ride out of year, tried out sat nav never had one for a bike before.

Gotta say really like the twisty road feature not so keen on the ford I came across having just cleaned bike.

I've read so many posts about Striples suspension they all sort of blend into one.

I can definitely say that the <=2009 Daytona shock is known for being harsh and having adjusters that are all/nothing.

But I thought the STR was sprung slightly softer compared to Daytona (12kg vs 12.6kg).
So in theory, it should be just a case of tweaking it a little.

EDIT:
mmm, not as cut n dried as I thought. Racetech claim the stiffer spring (12.6kg) was used in the 2009-2010 STR and it went soft (11.2kg) from 2013 onwards.
Interestingly there was a black hole between 2011 and 2012 though... so take with a pinch of salt!
https://racetech.com/ChooseVehicle.aspx

Have you checked the rider sag on the rear? Is it possible it's just got too much preload for your weight?
For me, I found 42-43mm was both firm but perfectly comfortable. I found 36mm was a touch too harsh for me on the roads. So not much range between good/bad.

I'd back off the preload until you get a smidge over 40mm then back off the compression to the "comfort" setting in the manual and the rebound to somewhere between "comfort" and default to account for our bumpy roads and stiff spring Smile
Then see how it feels.
I was surprised how much of a difference relatively small changes brought. Thumbs Up

EDIT2:
It took a little while for the penny to drop. You are right. 12.6kg is for lardy persons like me (according to my weight, racetech recommend 12.44kg). In short, 12.6 is good for 16.5st / 230lb persons.
Well, I'd still try fiddling the preload + compression/rebound as it's a lot cheaper than new parts.

Tbh, I haven't looked at what it's all set to yet. I'll get around to it soon, now that I am finding it less than perfect.

Took the ZX6 for a bit of mild 'off roading' exploring some forest tracks in Hampshire Laughing, then along the Dorset coast for a couple of hours.

Found a huge landfill site hidden inside a picturesque forest Shocked.

Jeez Louise, I know our roads aren't in the best state of repair, but a bit drastic don't you think? Laughing

Striple down to Fontwell to make lunch for, and drop off card to, my Ma for mothers day. Also known as an inheritance protection run. Smile

It was a bit warmer, certainly a lot sunnier and feck me, it was busy. My favourite NSL back roads were no longer wet and empty, but dry and snarled up with giant condoms on bicycles.
What were they doing!?! Go and visit your mother on mothers day. Cyclists. Selfish c****! Smile

Then I found myself behind a power ranger on a GSXR1000. He had all the gear, including his name written on the back of his leathers.
So I sat behind him, figuring he wouldn't stomach doing 45 in a 60 for long. Wrong. We bimbled for quite a way, but I just kept thinking "this guy looks like a club racer or something, he'll crack on in a second".

Then we got to an awesome bit of road, possibly the nicest 1.5 miles of bends in this area. It's steep, so has two lanes going up.
Gixxer man moves over to outside lane and I think "this is it, watch him go". He didn't go anywhere. He sat in the overtaking lane and we crawled up the hill and the first sight of a bend he slowed even more, so much so I thought he was going to fall off. He lent over 2 degrees and wobbled, he was completely rigid.

The dude was either running 10yr old BT021's (I can appreciate the dread he must have had at every damp corner), or this is the start..........The start of all you fair weather riders returning Razz

Very Happy

Now confirmed he was not John McGuinness, next chance I went passed with my topbox rammed with ingredients and hiviz billowing in the breeze. Had a nice day with my parents. Think immigration and the Daily Fail was mentioned only twice. Result Thumbs Up
