So last weekend i did do, win this on ebay

https://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/OTAwWDE2MDA=/z/OPEAAOSwZG9WkCmq/$_57.JPG

Not bad money at all considering what they go for now, went to pick it up on thursday night, eventually got it back after an encounter with a crazy dog lady as we turned the car around and a pot holes buckling a wheel on my mates car fucking the tyre and having to drive the last 5 miles home at 10mph.

Not been Mot'd since 2000 and been in a shed since then pretty much judging by the amount of rust/ or lack of.

Took the fairings off as they're horrid, i shall probably stick a circle headlight on the front so it's the same as the n2, the naked version of mine which is the 'f2'
https://i825.photobucket.com/albums/zz176/robyarr/20160123_152935_zpseunly1rb.jpg

Been real lucky soo far with it, one key fits all the locks, the tank has no rust inside or the seams on the outside leaking which seems to be a common problem with these, emptied the coolant out and it looked very fresh, engine turns over freely with the kickstart, clutch works and you can select gears, gearbox oil smells like oil so no worries that a crank seal has gone, yet...

Next plan is to Get a new battery, plugs and clean the carbs and see if it runs.

From one barn to the other.

Glad you're glad as I know you've been wanting one for a while but I must be one of the few people of my age that don't go gooey at a RD350.

Other than ditching the fairing and changing the headlamp what else is in store?

Yeh i did give up last year looking for one but this popped up in welshpool so it was not that far away and worth the punt.

Not going to do a great deal to it really, it will probably need a a fresh set of pistons/ rings, i want a proper grab rail for the back and tzr 250 clocks/ n2 clocks to make it look right, as i think the clocks on now might look abit odd, Probably get the tank painted aswell as the paintworks got abit bubbly.

I reckon these exhausts will sound nice standard as they are, but might buy some 'fancy' ones if any come up.

Amazes me how many spare parts there are about for them aswell,i could go wild tuning it, but probably too tight for that, lol.

I worked with a chap who was an RD obsessive so aware of how much money(and time) can be plowed into a bike.

Did he let you ride one? have you ridden one?

They are rather more-ish... In an immature and purely hedonistic on-the-back-wheel way.

I wouldn't pay what they are going for now. Equally, I wouldn't pass up the opportunity to spank the arse off one beacuse fuck-you, it's an early 80's 2-stroke.

Borrow one, cane the fucking arse off it and if you blow it up, what the fuck were they expecting?

If you're not going to cane the arse off it, don't bother riding it. They are nothing special in any other respect.

Yeah there's a good chance turning the crank could rip the crank seals and let them leak between cylinders or allow gearbox oil into the crankcase. Its happened to me after I left a motor sat for a few years.

You might get it running as is for a short time, long enough to tear up the seals or for a corroded big end to start knocking, but sooner or later it will all need stripping for a full crank re-build.

Hi

Thought that went for more than you wanted to pay.

Looks a good basis. Although not sure I would take the fairing off

All the best

It kind of did, but somehow it put more in on the bidding box tan i wanted D:

But another project one went for a 1000 quid more the other day so can't complain too much.

Fairing is rough as arseholes, bin it. Even if you can get hold of a rough TZR clock set you can transplant the f2 dials into the TZR case no problem. Power jet carbs suck if you are looking to tune it (can't alter the power jet), use F1 carbs if you want to deviate from stock. Use genuine headgaskets. Programmable CDI gives massive improvements from stock if you are feeling flush. I believe you can convert them to a gravity feed fuel tap which is always good.

today i did do

https://i825.photobucket.com/albums/zz176/robyarr/20160207_135832_zps79xufqjs.jpg

Carbs are now ready to go back on the bike, emulsion tubes have probably never been out since new

Also as gt200 fan said, i have bought some rd350 n2 clock cases, which i have now transfered my old clocks in to and i've got a bracket from an n2 all ready to go on, just need a headlight and that conversion is done, already sold the front fairing so that should cover the ridiculous price of the n2 bracket, which was about 70 quid as they're soo 'rare'

Hopefully have her running in the next couple of days

It briefly starts with petrol down the plug holes, but then cuts out after 5 secs, it does seem to be electrical as the pv cycle that it does on startup makes a noise as soon as it cuts out, and it makes that noise when you kick it over aswell, asif there's a dodgy connection somewhere

yep all the above, one new plug cap and new plugs, someone has covered all the connector blocks in grease or something, for some reason, so not sure if that's causing an issue, just gonna have to go through it with a fine toothcomb

yep slowly working away on it, fitted a new loom and no diff, so bought a new coil and it did seem to try and run , but after a few goes it gave up the ghost, i've bought a stator to swap as similar symptoms have happened to the other rd boys, so we'll see how it goes

Well i got the engine off to evoboy who promptly stripped it down

https://i825.photobucket.com/albums/zz176/robyarr/rd%20piston_zpsbgqfkprh.jpg

https://i825.photobucket.com/albums/zz176/robyarr/rd%202_zpskcjmzqmg.jpg

https://i825.photobucket.com/albums/zz176/robyarr/rd%20crank_zps6tjyynla.jpg

https://i825.photobucket.com/albums/zz176/robyarr/rd%20fail_zpser0by8iw.jpg

https://i825.photobucket.com/albums/zz176/robyarr/rd%20ypvs_zps4my9vyhm.jpg

Pretty worn out, so it's getting a total rebuild, crank rebuilt, all bearings replaced, seals , rebored and new pistons/ gaskets, should go like fk when done

Got some new bt45's fitted aswell as the old tyres looked abit deadly

https://i825.photobucket.com/albums/zz176/robyarr/20160404_201417_zpsqnrmhper.jpg

Also i popped the rear brakes seized pistons out via greasegun so just need some new seals and that's that sorted.

So update really , got the engine sorted, here's a few pics of it being rebuilt

https://i825.photobucket.com/albums/zz176/robyarr/13010119_10154126785507250_1483209996_o_zpstmsm93cs.jpg

Few things to add to the list really,

Rear brake cleaned, new seals and bleed nipple, fronts new nipples and bled up working well

r6 rear shock fitted, had to get some bushes made to fit the linkage for the existing system and holes to attach to the frame, linkage needed new bushes all the way through, but luckily checking the corresponding part numbers on ebay, instead of paying 70 quid at fowlers for 4 bushes, i paid about £15, so winnah

circle headlight fitted so now it does look like a proper N2

It started first kick when put back in the frame, just need to sort the small issue of fuel pissing out of everywhere on the rh carb, fork oil changed and it's ready for mot

Quick vid of it running, commentary by temeluchus

https://i825.photobucket.com/albums/zz176/robyarr/th_VID-20160515-WA0005_zpscy5ywax1.mp4

abit smoky but running on premix until the 2t pumps right and set up
