Hi all!

I'm wanting to rebore a barrel. But not sure where's the best place to get it done and a piston to fit. I'm new to getting barrels bored ect.

Where do people suggest to get a barrel bored? And maybe if they'll supply a piston to fit as well?

Many thanks Smile

What bike is it? Difficult to recommend where you'd get a piston if we don't know what it's going on.

You can sometimes get aftermarket barrel and piston kits for smaller bikes cheaper than fiddling around getting rebores and oversize pistons.

You generally need to find the size of piston that's in it (often stamped on it somewhere on the crown if it's an oversize, scrape off the coke) and order the next size piston and rings up. If you know the bike's never had a rebore before, you'll be in a standard bore and will usually just need the first oversize unless there's heavy damage to the bore itself.

Then you take/send the piston(s) rings and barrel(s) to the engineer who will bore it to suit.

Some may be able to supply pistons. I've always taken my own along in the past.

Wemoto supply oversize aftermarket piston kits.

Or you could go OEM but that'll cost you £100+.

Shame you're not closer to me.

My local guy has a PROPER boring bar. Not like those weedy ones.

And a spare for if he wants to bore something in-situ on the block.

He's not really an online kind of a guy though. You have to go see him when the yard gate's open (if he's too busy and doesn't want to be disturbed, he shuts the gate).

Random engine porn from the same workshop.

Tom Rumneys Garage at Silloth.

When Tru-grinds got flooded out in the floods before last, he bought all their gear and re-motored them.

I wondered who ended up with Trugrind' s gear, they were very good customers of mine throughout the eighties when I worked for Wurth. They had a very complete set of Timesert kits. I thought the photos were of Tom Lewthwaites place in Whitehaven, wasn't too sure whether he had fully retired at last, haven't seen him for a couple of years.

It's off one of six brough superiors that were specifically built as sidecar tugs.

A resto. They apparently were made with one-off castings to increase LHS clearance for attaching the chair and a different gear ratio from standard. One piston had the skirt broken off. They landed up welding it back on and turning it back down.
