The ban is lifted on those riding lawfully

The ban has not been lifted, the injunction is still in place. If you ride with another bike (or drive with another car) you will be in convoy and in contempt of court - ie riding unlawfully.

Sadly they say this:
Quote:
The ban is lifted on those riding lawfully, anyone driving in convoy or throughout the town, anyone learning to ride or teach others, or anyone taking part in a charity event.

Which seems to be a blatant and complete lie.
The injunction is still in place in it's original form as far as I can see.

I'm reading it a little as, you are going to be in violation of a court order unless we deem it to be reasonable so of course bikers doing their test for example will be exempt from its use. So basically yes, we the unfaced get to deem what is acceptable to turn a blind eye to.

Massive overreach is problematic. Anyway to fight this legally?

Just an additional thought on this. Harlow council appear to be encouraging "others to breach this order" ...

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Harlow Injunction C00CM435

MAG has been and continues to liaise with Harlow Council officials in connection with the issue of an injunction designed to address anti social behaviour by a minority of local motorcyclists.

MAG's discussions reflect the wide scale concern that the injunction will prejudice legitimate motorcycle gatherings, rides out and training exercises.

Harlow Council has now issued the following statement in order to clarify the situation.

"Harlow Council is very sorry that this issue has upset and angered the wider biking community. This was never our intention.......

Harlow Council and Essex Police wants to make it clear that anyone riding bikes lawfully in Harlow on the road to either meet up with friends, including driving in a convoy; drive through the town; learn to ride or teach others, or take part in a charity event, will not be served with the injunction. This is the same for anyone driving a motor vehicle. "

MAG Chair Selina Lavender said; “The clarification by Harlow Council is helpful and we welcome the included apology. We are cautiously confident that this injunction will not become an issue with implications broader than the one it was conceived to address, but we are calling upon the council to rescind this unnecessary court order.”

MAG welcomes and encourages the continued support of the motorcycling community shown through membership. Please join at www.mag-uk.org/en/membership

Forgive my ignorance, but what the feck is an 'Authorised' Ride Out? OK, I understand that sometimes permits may be required for large events, but since when did you need permission from anyone to go for a ride out with other bikers? I understand that this injunction was intended to prevent one specific event, where they anticipated some kind of problem. I read that as 'they don't have the resources to 'police' that event' and therefor it suits them to cancel it, using the threat of criminal action. That in my opinion, is how it starts. That is the thin edge of the wedge. It would appear to be a breach of an individuals rights. What comes next? Bikers not allowed to congregate in groups larger that three? How long before these kind of injunctions become by-laws and then national laws. Before you know it, you have been identified as a 'danger to society'. Look at what has been allowed to happen in Australia, U.S.A and Canada. They say that their legislation is to target 'Biker Gangs', but guess what? you and a bunch of your mates on a ride out on a sunny Sunday morning could suddenly find yourselves identified as a a 'gang' and a danger to society.

There is n such thing in Harlow.
You needed permission since last month in Harlow.
It's not just bikers; anyone that uses a motorvehicle.

At least in the countries you mention they do have some very serious gang warfare to tackle. Though, again; likely have imposed over the top legislation on the basis they are lazy.

We've covered all this. Nothing in the injunction defines it and any copper can do you on a whim regardless of whatever permission you may think you have.
